Top things to do at Akaroa Dolphin Swim Experience
You'll cruise for approximately 3 hours in the beautiful Akaroa Harbour and have 45 minutes for swimming with the dolphins. There will be a briefing on dolphin behavior from a dolphin expert. Full equipment is provided, including wetsuits, masks, snorkels, boots, gloves, and hoods if necessary. Warm showers are available after the activity, along with hot chocolate to warm up after the swim.

Tours depart from Main Wharf, 61 Beach Rd, Akaroa. Akaroa town is a quaint, romantic, and unique French-style seaside village in New Zealand.
Opening hours of Akaroa Dolphin Swim Experience
The dolphin swim activity is available year-round. 11:30 AM (from October to April). Duration: 2 hours on the water (plus half an hour before and after the activity). Please arrive 30 minutes prior for check-in.

Full equipment is provided, including wetsuits, masks, snorkels, boots, gloves, and hoods if necessary. Warm showers are available after the activity. Hot chocolate is served after the swim.
Know Before You Go
All participants must be confident swimmers in open ocean conditions and able to swim 50 meters unaided. Life jackets are not provided for this activity. Touching the dolphins is not permitted, as their skin is very delicate, and even light contact can cause bruising or injury. If no dolphins are found, an $80 refund will be issued, or you can join the activity on another day, subject to availability. The minimum age is 8 years old, and children should be confident swimmers. Customers must inform about any pre-existing medical conditions that may limit participation. A basic level of fitness is required. You will need to float in the water and be able to swim back and forth from the boat for a maximum distance of 50 meters. Customers should have a sufficient level of English comprehension to understand safety instructions and emergency procedures. Customers must not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The boat can accommodate a maximum of 24 passengers at a time. Bring your swimwear and a towel (during the low season, May to September, dry suits are provided, which can be worn over regular clothing and keep you 100% dry). Warm clothing is recommended for cool days, such as fleece, polypropylene thermals, wool socks, and trousers. Jeans are not suitable.
