Piolets Park & Spa

This was the 12th hotel on our long European road trip—and coming after Chamonix, it was a surprisingly positive experience; it exceeded expectations in terms of value for money. It was our first time in Andorra. The rooms we were given were top-notch, and the staff were kind and helpful. Everything was clean and looked new. The buffet dinner was plentiful and of excellent quality. What we missed: a pool, a more stable internet connection, a small table for the terrace, and a non-smoking policy. Also—though this isn't the hotel's fault—it would be great to see the introduction of regional discount cards in cooperation with local hotels, similar to the Austrian model; if that happened, we would gladly return. Thank you, we had a great time!

If you are heading to Grandvalira for a ski or hiking trip, the location here is tough to beat. It’s sitting right in Soldeu, just a short walk (or an incredibly quick, efficient shuttle ride) to the main ski gondola. The hotel itself hits that perfect rustic-meets-modern alpine aesthetic. The lounge bar area has an awesome vibe for an evening drink, and they even do live DJ sessions on some nights which makes for a great post-slope wind-down. For food, you've got some surprisingly high-caliber options on-site, including an Italian spot (Don Giovanni) and Chinese fine dining (KAO Soldeu), alongside a massive buffet breakfast that is easily a highlight of the stay. The rooms are comfortable and come with balconies offering great mountain views, though the standard rooms can feel a bit tight if you're trying to pack in a family with tons of bulky winter gear. The real catch to be aware of? The amenities are premium, but they aren't all included. Even though the stunning indoor/outdoor spa, pools, and hot tubs are a massive selling point, you usually have to pay an extra daily supplement to actually use them. Outside parking and the breakfast can also carry hefty extra fees if they aren't bundled into your initial booking rate. If you book a package that already includes the spa access and breakfast, it’s a stellar, high-end mountain retreat with a killer kids' club and top-tier ski facilities. If you don't, prepare to be nickel-and-dimed at check-out.
