CBD Hotel Newcastle

The best part about this hotel was that they honoured our cancelation and gave us our money back. Oh, and the very nice guy who made that happen. But the place? Shocking entry down a back alley which was dirty and wet, creaking stairs and floorboards under allergy-inducing carpets. Dirty windows, and everything (except the bedding) had seen better days. We scarpered out of there. Later we saw that it is for sale to 'operate or renovate'. Just don't stay there.

Upon Check-in staff member was pleasant and helpful, and also let us check-in early which was very handy, but from then on we did not see another staff member, reception closed and restaurant also closed morning and night during our short 1 night stay. Signs everywhere for night manager and when I checked out at 0630 and needed to drop key off they did answer at 0630 which was good. There were separate Male/Female toilet/shower facilities BUT very basic, small, old and not clean. Rooms extremely small but clean, fridge, TV and Air con all good. Access to hotel rooms was down a dark alley and main door did not always lock which made us feel unsafe. Lots of stairs also made moving luggage to and from room very difficult. Limited parking with only 7 spots, street parking available at cost at certain hours Not suitable for families or couples but good for a cheap overnight stay for a single or 2 friends.

The front of the hotel isn`t in use,looks like this is due to construction of tram/light rail system being installed,so entry is round the back. Very comfy bed,fridge,hand basin and TV in the room,perfectly adequate for the price of the room. Excellent reasonably priced bar downstairs with an excellent draft cider and good choice of other drinks.Shared bathroom and toilet but didn`t see anyone else use it. Good choice at breakfast in the downstairs lounge,which makes this hotel excellent value for money. Near to the theatre and not to far a walk to town center and riverside. All staff were friendly and helpful,I would recommend this hotel.
