Hilltops Retreat Motor Inn

I am extremely disappointed with the condition of this property and my overall experience during my stay. The building had multiple leaks caused by rain, which created an uncomfortable and concerning environment throughout the visit. In addition, there was a massive gap around the entry door that allowed outside air, noise, and light to enter the room, making it feel poorly maintained and unsecured. The privacy curtain was also severely damaged with a large rip, allowing excessive light from the patio area to shine directly into the room and significantly reducing privacy. The carpet throughout the room was torn in several places, creating multiple trip hazards and clear safety concerns. To make matters worse, there was a very unpleasant odor throughout the property that made the stay even more uncomfortable. I have attached photos documenting the large door gap and damaged privacy curtain as supporting evidence of these issues. Overall, the condition and maintenance of this property fell far below reasonable expectations, and I would not recommend staying here unless substantial repairs and improvements are made.

Short story: This hotel got my booking wrong and it meant we couldn't stay. Longer story: we were travelling to Young NSW to stay the night before my father’s funeral a few hours further in Tullibigeal the next day. I had booked a disabled room online on the motel’s direct booking site as my husband is disabled. After I booked, I got emailed back a booking reference stating I had booked a Disabled Twin Share Room. We were more than half way to Young when I checked my emails and saw a receipt from the motel saying I had paid for a Deluxe Family Room. So I rang just to check that it was an error because I'd had a receipt saying I'd booked a disabled room. The receptionist looked up my original booking and said he could see that I’d booked a disabled room, so he said he’d have to ring the owner to check why there was a discrepancy. He rang me back about 10 minutes later and said that something had happened and the disabled room was already booked for the night by another party, but would I like to stay in the family room? Obviously the receptionist had no understanding of disabled rooms and how they cannot be interchanged with "abled" rooms. I said no thank you and please refund me. I also asked him to get the owner to ring me back so I could discuss the stress this has caused me and how the motel can make sure it doesn’t happen again. We turned back and went home. We then had to refill our fuel tank at over $AUD3.00 a litre because of the diesel prices caused Middle East war. And we then had to do over an 8 hour round trip from home to my father’s funeral the next day. The motel needs to check what went wrong between my booking and the allocation of rooms to ensure this doesn’t happen to other travellers. It’s now been a week and we’re still waiting to hear from the owner. I’m very disappointed with this customer service. It made a stressful time in my life even more stressful.

Location was good. The variety of firm and soft beds and pillows was a nice surprise. We will stay there again if we go back to Houston. The only down side is that they sell parking spots during events so it can make parking challenging but we never did not have a spot to park so that was good.
