My sister and I stayed overnight to reduce the drive from Coober Pedy to Uluru. The receptionist was lovely, but we had a few small hiccups- firstly we were given an occupied room and after that was fixed, the power went out. The Desert Oaks is old and weather beaten, but has a charm to it that makes it an enjoyable place to stay.
We had an executive twin room and although it had been renovated it was showing its age in the bedroom section. The bathroom was modern, except for the shower curtain and the bedroom was functional and had comfortable beds.
The Desert Oaks is really a tiny town with attractions and it is quirky. There's an emu who lives with Cluck Norris- the rooster, a camel called Carlotta- Queen of the Desert Oaks, a sunset lookout and a great emu farm. The roadhouse also has a large shop, great meals in the pub and beautiful murals decorating the outside.
It's quirky and fun, I highly recommend a stay in the outback at the Desert Oaks Resort.
