Sofitel Cairns Reef Casino

Fantastic in all aspects. I live here in the north but only get to cairns every 3 or 4 years or so, even though it’s only a few hours away. I booked a suite with 2 queen beds through the Accor site. As a diamond member, I was fortunate to receive many benefits, starting with early check in! Our room was exception: huge and spotlessly clean. I was very lucky to receive a welcome amenity of a beautiful cheese platter and some cold drinks. The weather was perfect in June, and sitting on the balcony, sea breeze blowing and complimentary live music from the pub across road was just wonderful. The hotel offers a great à la carte menu for breakfast, and 3 dining spaces as well as room service. We dined at Tamarind restaurant which was fantastic. Staff are amazing and special shout out to Matt for assisting us with local tourist knowledge. Parking is plentiful and cost is $12 per day. The location is great, walk to the esplanade and lagoon and a whole range of great eateries. I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels and this one is right up there in top 5! Will def be back.

Before the bad news I have to say that all the staff did their best. Polite and friendly. Good location.spacious room but the whole hotel needs a complete renovation. Carpets and furniture stained. Aircon not reverse cycle so had to ask for a heater for chilly evenings. Bathrooms dated and towel quality varied from threadbare to plush. Very noisy from street noise and local bans. Definitely not double glazed. Room cleaning questionable and ammenities lacking. Breakfast ok , coffee excellent.Staff attentive. Although limited choice, but served in a passageway between reception areas and casino, for $39 pp one would expect quality jam and pastries, but one had to pay extra for fresh croissants. quality of crockery and flatware was poor. Again the coffee was fabulous.

Great location, room & service. (Although if staying for longer than a few days, room service lacking until very late).& then a day after checking out, having spent over $4k, got a call saying I had an outstanding charge of $6 for a tonic water, really 😳
