Peppers Beach Club Port Douglas

My travel agent booked us into Peppers but had not actually checked it out. I was slightly put off by the recent reviews however we found our room to be absolutely fine. It was clean and well Equipped. It was large and spacious, had coffee machine, washer and drier (and washing liquid), there was air con and a fan, dish washer, microwave and oven. We had a very slow check in as there was only one person on the desk and a queue. There was an underground carpark which provided direct access to the rooms. The Lagoon pool and sunbeds was cleaned every morning and was nice and warm. The restaurant did not really appeal to us as the menu was very limited. We tried the cocktails though! Breakfast was good- cereal, fruit, yogurt, toast and pastries, cooked food bar. The coffee machine did provide lukewarm warm coffee but there was a machine in our room too. We had our beds made and fresh towels provided each day if required. The hotel is in a good location - 5 minutes walk to the beach and shops. Overall a pleasant stay

For the $1000+ per night price tag this hotel is simply appalling. They do not come close to 3, 4 or 5 star standards. Stated simply just about everything is dirty and beat up. My photos tell the story of our 2 bedroom suite from which I write this review. Some 33 negatives as a list. (I could write 100) 1. Room is very dirty, especially the floors. I went through an entire pack of Ajax floor wipes cleaning up our room. I highly recommend you bring some. 2. The walls, appliances and furniture are beat up and worn. 3. The bathroom has no ventilation. Take a 2 minute shower and you have a steam room. Oddly, there is vent that does nothing and seems to be a decorative item only. 4. In the bedroom the ceiling mounted AC will blow on your head at night. Not pleasant. 5. The locks on the doors are coming apart. Not a safety culture or feeling. 6. Dust is caked up everywhere. There was trash left throughout the kitchen. 7. The lagoon pool is full of trash, organic and mostly plastic items. They do not clean it. 8. The pool is ice cold. 9. There is no shower by the pool to rinse off at. 10. There is no hot tub. 11. The lunch and poolside menu at Koko has about 5 items on it. None of them are a meal, just lame snacks. That is ridiculous. How about a sandwich? 12, Breakfast is bare bones. They failed to make sunny side up eggs. They only know over hard when cooking eggs. 13. The coffee is poor and was cold immediately after it was made. 14. Bugs were on the buffet. 15. They do not offer towels by the pool. They provide 2 small towels in the room. Those towels are not big enough to cover the dirty lounger chairs they provide by the pool. That is very poor. 16. Housekeeping does not change dirty towels. Luckily our rooms had a washer/dryer. After buying a $12 detergent at Coles I could wash my own towels on my holiday. 17. The exterior corridors are very dirty. 18. The elevator is dirty. 19. They do not offer dark out curtains just useless wooden blinds. (See image.) 20. Service is sluggish on a good day. 21. All guests in the room were not given keys. Thus, for $1000+ a night I cannot even have a key to the room. 22. They provide no slippers as an amenity. 23. There is no makeup mirror in the bathroom. 24. The shower floods the bathroom floor. At least that works to wash it. 25. The beds are lumpy. 26. Towels have holes. 27. The dryer leaked water after each use. 28. Disgusting carpets. 29. Most interior doors are broken. 30. Disgusting wood floors. 31. For $1000+/night they do not even offer bottled water... 32. They have security type hangers and barely provide any of them. So annoying. 33. There are few outlets by the bed for your devices. There are no positives to speak of. In summary this a uniquely bad hotel in dire need of a renovation, heated pool, service adjustments, a deep clean pool towels, a normal food and beverage concept and new management. I have never felt so ripped off and mislead. What's worse is loosing vacation days to these rubbish.

It was a great location and the pool area and look of the hotel is lovely. But most sunbeds are on a slope so aren’t really practical to lay on for any length of time. The room was quite small and not very clean. The attention to detail wasn’t good. It also lacked atmosphere because most people are self catering. It seemed to be run by a few young people and the restaurant closed early and didn’t sell Bottled water for example. I also walked past a used sanitary towel by the pool at one point. They definitely need to work harder with the cleaning. Some staff were friendly and helpful though.
