Wilpena Pound Resort

Incredible location with beautiful cabins and rooms and very friendly and kind staff. Heaps of incredible walks to do with beautiful views. Would highly recommend brining waterproof boots especially in winter. The only thing that slightly disappointed me was the hot water and the restaurant menu, but otherwise it was incredible!

We booked through a third party for 2 nights with buffet breakfast included. Helpful staff on checkin. Large upgraded rooms, large comfortable beds & great heating. Small bathroom which we found could be better cleaned & not a lot of water pressure. A good buffet breakfast but found juice & pastries not replenished. We took our own food but found the prices in the restaurant & shop very expensive. As we were staying only 2 nights the room wasn't serviced. With this in mind perhaps some dishwasher liquid & tea towel could be supplied. We were disappointed that the welcome to country smoke ceremony wasn't performed during our stay.

We stayed 3 nights in a safari tent, which was a novel (and great!) experience. The tent was very comfortable and well equipped (comfortable bed, air con, tea and coffee making facilities). Bathroom had a good sized shower (but was one with a glass panel and no door, so floor tended to get a bit wet). Water was hot, shower pressure wasn't great, but adequate. We were pleasantly surprised to find that we had good wifi at the far end of the park (I don't think the general camping/caravan sites have wifi - you have to go to the main resort buildings). Only downside was no cooking facilities, not even a toaster (I guess because of fire risk), so we had to go to the camp kitchen for breakfast and dinner (or eat at the resort restaurant). This kitchen was a long way from the tents, so we had to drive every time we wanted hot food! There is an event tent near the safari tents, with what looks like a kitchen attached - perhaps they could look at opening that to tent residents? We found the lack of signage very frustrating! We were given a site map, but there were so many little tracks we got lost several times, especially at night, before sussing out the routes. Overall, we had a great stay - with plenty of wildlife (rock wallaby right outside our tent!) and birds and a beautiful location, with plenty of walking trails close by.
