Great Northern

Great friendly and attentive service. From the moment we arrived we felt very comfortable. Stayed one night prior to early flight from Launceston and saved a very early morning from the North West of Tasmania. Arrived late afternoon and found our room quite satisfactory for the night. Decided to head down for happy hour drink then dinner. We found the staff very friendly and the service was terrific. We had dinner and it was delicious and reasonably priced. Thanks Sergio and team we will highly recommended this hotel for comfort, location and price. Cheers.

Arriving at the hotel we noticed a very upset elderly gentleman, he was told upon arrival that the hotel needed a $250 deposit for his stay and he wasn’t aware and couldn’t afford it. When we got to the desk I checked both my booking on booking.com and the best western website and there was no deposit mentioned anywhere. But it was essentially if you want to stay you have to pay the deposit, and if you cancel now on arrival you will still be charged for the room. I was then asked for ID, which my partner started to worry if they’re taking my personal details and asking for money that’s not in the plan is this a front desk scam. We persisted, and met many other couples around the hotel upset about the same thing. Our king bed was two singles, they were pushed together and so hard where they joined our romantic weekend we slept a metre apart. Our shower had a black substance in it I had to wash out to get clean for dinner. The main attraction was waking up at 1am to drink idiots jumping on the roof of cars in the hotel car park. My partner stayed awake for a hour watching to make sure our car was safe. Should have used that $250 to book somewhere better, never again.

Stayed here as part of organised group tour - large clean room - nice bathroom and shower facilities - as it was the last night for a number of the guests on the tour we arranged to met the bar at 7:30pm for a farwell drink only to be advised the bar closed at 8PM! We ordered drinks before the deadline and were sitting chatting when we were told to leave the bar area at 8:30pm and move to a small area outside the bar with no organised setting facilities thus ruining the evening for the eight people there. As we were all residents of the hotel and in our 70’s we were left with no option but to end the evening and to our rooms thus ruining the farewell get together for us all. It’s was unlikely we were going to be disruptive and disturb any of the other residents and feel that an option of a residence bar should have provided. We just wanted to sit and chat for a while before saying goodbye as we were unlikely to met again. 8:30pm is not an acceptable time to close bar and restaurant facilities for residents in a four star hotel!
