Chifley Geelong Hotel and Apartments

We had a quiet and comfortable stay at Bayside. While our room was due for the planned refurbishment, the outstanding staff more than made up for it. Everyone, from management to the housekeeping team, was friendly, welcoming, and professional. A special thank you to the English chef, who happily shared some cooking advice, and to the tall young man who made the best coffee each morning. Both went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The comfortable bed, peaceful atmosphere, and exceptional customer service were the highlights of our stay. With the planned refurbishment to the bayview rooms, this will be an awasome place to stay.

A delightful stay here at Bayside Geelong after a night PMJ at the Performing Arts Centre. The room is impeccably clean and well appointed (dressing gowns and ‘slippers’ provided). Check in was a breeze and we will be back! Highly recommend.

Our stay was superficially very pleasant, but several issues need addressing. You advertise that each room has a either a ‘coffee maker’ or a ‘tea/coffee maker’- none do! They have a kettle and sachets of instant coffee which is NOT what the majority of your guests would call a ‘coffee maker’ in any sense. It is a kettle – it boils water – it does NOT make coffee. That is left to the relatively cheap pod-machines which one would expect in a hotel charging the fees you do. The housekeeping needs a stern rebuke. Our room was superficially clean BUT the microwave had splattered food on the inside of the cabinet which needed wiping out before use. When we opened the fridge it, too, needed wiping from various splatters but when we opened the freezer, we realised this had never been opened for cleaning after the last guest - see the attached photo. The can of Fanta had swollen and burst flooding the cabinet and the white box was half full of chocolate ice-cream. This is totally unacceptable and makes us worry about what else has not been cleaned thoroughly. We noted also that the tray into which to drop the ice blocks is missing which makes the presence of the ice-block maker redundant. We note that half the hotel had been renovated and half not but there seems to be no difference in the price of rooms in the two sections. One is very smart and one very dated so we would expect the older section to be cheaper than the renovated, but it seems both areas are priced similarly. We received no gowns to enable us to access your pool whereas the rooms in the renovated part of the hotel all received gowns, we saw the rooms being made up with the gowns being hung. Why denigrate those who stay in the older part when you charge them the same? We do expect much better from a hotel charging the fees you do.
