PALAIS PORCIA HOTEL

Urgently n hotel needed for 1 night with zn 4s. OUTRAGEOUS PRICE 250 for 1 suite?! Hard beds towels were also very hard! You can't normally shower that has to be in the bath and you can't hang up your shower head, el cheapo shower gel/shower curtain!! Would skip this "antique hotel" nicely!!! Wy unfortunately had no choice because of broken car and all hotels full....

First the positives: Great location right on the platz that had the Christkindlemart... Parking was across the road and easy to access. The breakfasts were great -- full European buffet, but could order off the menu if you wished. Lots of coffee juices, breads fruits etc.... Also the staff was very accomodating and courteous. Had smart TV in room. Linen was comfortable. 5 piece bathroom all marbled. Although we were there during the Christmas Market, the hotel was empty... Probably the price? Then a bit of the strange stuff.... 1) Beware of the price of the parking. Says "FREE" but that is only for the evening, and you have to pay 19 euros a day to park during the day. You buy the parking (in and out service) from the hotel. You pull up in front to off load your bags ( no bellman ) into an old EMPTY foyer with gorgeous chandeliers, then take the elevator up to the 3rd floor where the reception is. You can leave your car for 15 minutes while you check in and get the parking pass 2) The decor -- at first glance filled with opulant antiques, hundreds of mirrors and couldn't count how many chandeliers. but one could think it was a bit over the top and tacky. The antique furniture, some of which is authentic, and other pieces are Pacific Rim copies. The floors were covered with area persian rugs in reds. The walls were heavily wallpapered. BUT it s a bit of a facade. The large paintings of historic figures/nobility in gold gilt frames are everywhere - they look realy but they are just canvas copies. The room was decorated the same, with type of heavy over the top decor, but it was comfortable. We had a suite which gave us a seating area. 3) Actually have room keys....just one. 4) Shower was nice, but with the water on MAX hot, it was just a nice temperature... so satisfactory, but certainly not HOT. 5) The table side lights were not plugged in, and there were no plugs visiable. When brought to the staff's attention, she had to crawl on her hands and knees (which I felt bad about) and reach under the bed to the outlets.... Giving it 3 stars considering the price we had to pay... which was a lot!

Classic style furnishings, very nice and welcoming, very clean, underground parking available with the hotel at 1/3 of the normal price, very friendly and helpful staff. The location is the best in the city, on the main square.
