Hotel Haidenhof

Due to the aggressive behavior of the hotel dog, we could not move freely in the entrance area of the bar and were constantly barked at loudly, once even attacked, which is unacceptable for any guest, and instead of apologizing, the hotel manager reprimanded us, which is an incredible behavior for a hospitality professional! We ourselves are very animal-loving, but this did not contribute to our relaxation! Cleanliness was inadequate, mattresses were worn out, breakfast was perfect!

There have always been many good reasons to travel to East Tyrol. Now there is one more: At the beginning of September, David and Anita Senfter, newcomer shooting stars from South Tyrol (Gault Millau, Falstaff) took over their first restaurant of their own: the “Ansitz12” in the renowned Hotel Haidenhof in Lienz, David’s birthplace. Here the 30-year-old finally wants to implement what he has learned on his own. And the first serve - is an ace! Senfter’s cuisine is not spectacular, but oriented towards the region, complemented by creations of his secret passion, fermentation. The result is menus (currently still available for a maximum of 85 euros a five courses) , as they did not exist before in Lienz. Two examples: The fry soup, standard in Austrian cuisine, is not only delicious (it is elsewhere), but outstanding. The vegetables bite-proof to the point, the beef soup so powerful, as if a whole ox were processed in it. Or the catfish fillet in hay-kombucha-beurre-blanc, green apple and leeks - an impressive taste experience! The wine list, which David's wife Anita looks after, is solid but still capable of expansion. Extremely fair prices for the well-known Austrian plants. One or two surprising positions could still do the list good. But the Senfters are still at the very beginning. And it is, you can say after a week, absolutely successful. You feel like more!

A little outside Lienz but still reachable in two minutes by car the complex is located in the middle of nature. A natural pool in front and possibility of walks all around. The rooms are comfortable with wooden furniture. Sauna and gym . It is not possible to dine but appropriate directions are provided to reach nearby partner restaurants. Breakfast is superb with a wide savoury choice. I really enjoyed the presence of both cooked and raw vegetables. Ample parking. More than positive
