Hilton Danube Waterfront

We were at the Hilton Vienna Waterfront in mid-August for 3 nights with the family (2 adults, 2 children 3+0). Our conclusion: Okay, but nothing more. We did not book the hotel because of its location on the Danube, which would have been irrelevant to us with children, but because of its advertisement on the internet as being particularly child-friendly. And indeed, one was never looked at askance when our child cried loudly or we were out and about in the hotel with our huge stroller. We thought that was quite good. But unfortunately, we could not find anything else regarding child-friendliness. The pool is cold! Yes, even very cold! For us, right after a heat wave, it was just 23 degrees. Our son could accordingly only stand being in the water for a maximum of 5 minutes. You don't expect a 34-degree heated pool here either, but 27-29 degrees would be something completely different! Towels at the pool were obviously no longer restocked after 3:00 PM. Directly adjacent to the pool, you can apparently buy cocktails and refreshments in the summer in a 4x4 meter area filled with 10 cm of sand. It was closed for us due to the weather, but a few children tried to play there with partially broken sand toys. At this point, one has to ask whether this outdoor bar is really necessary? After all, the main bar is less than 10 meters away on the same floor! Due to the bad weather, we wanted to visit the play area during a short break in the rain. This was a bitter disappointment. Almost all the toys were broken and there was hardly anything there! You could make so much more out of it with very little effort! In addition, we stated when booking that we needed a baby crib. This was only in our room at 9:00 PM after the 3rd request directly at the front desk! Then, however, at record speed. The room was very well suited for us as a family! We had a double room with two queen-size beds. The room was really large and by pushing the two beds together, the three of us had more than enough space! Room service didn't think much of us pushing them together, presumably because the beds were difficult to make, and pulled them apart again. We had a bathtub in the bathroom. I don't normally like that at all, but at least our son was able to warm up there after his cold-weather adventure in the pool. Otherwise, the room was very clean and there is little negative to mention. Except maybe... The furniture, which is getting on in years? But that didn't bother us much. Otherwise, from the perspective of a family with small children, there is little that would make this hotel better or worse than any other city hotel. Breakfast was very extensive and high quality, but unfortunately, due to the hotel's very diverse international clientele, it was extremely unappetizing at later breakfast times—and that means as early as 9:00 AM here!!! We had to watch as guests finished drinking juice right at the counter and put glasses back, took cut fruit out of bowls with their hands, etc. A real shame, since the quality of the food was otherwise really great! We were satisfied with the location. In 5-10 minutes, we could walk with a stroller to the Stadion subway station, from where you could take the U2 to Praterstern and Karlsplatz. Transfer once to the U1 and you can also get to Stephansplatz or, as we did, to Donauinsel, where we discovered a wonderful water playground. I also found the parking to be an absolute outrage. €30/day is anything but a bargain! And after we had parked there for 1 night and asked about a payment option, they immediately tried to charge us for the remaining days as well. Here, I can only recommend that everyone drive on the street right next to the parking lot. This is only permitted for construction traffic, but can be driven on without any problems, as the entire route is visible. Approx. 50 meters after the hotel parking lot is a public parking lot for a flat daily rate of €12.50. I wouldn't park a Ferrari there, but our SUV was also fine at the end of our stay. Staff and reception were typical for a business/city hotel: impersonal and quick to process, almost unfriendly. Otherwise, there is not much left for me to say. Would I come back? Yes, for a business trip or as a couple on a city trip. As a family, unfortunately no.

Nice hotel with a lovely room, a cozy atmosphere, and a beautiful outdoor terrace. Great location by the river and fairly easy to reach by public transport. Unfortunately, breakfast was extremely crowded, with long queues and many items running out, so in our opinion, it wasn’t worth the price.

Great hotel, staff friendly, mainly executive lounge waiter Ibrahim and Ivan. We had very pleasant time. Thanks for everything.
