Pension Neuer Markt

The hotel is perfectly located just 300 meters from Stephansplatz. The staff is incredibly nice and helpful, and the breakfast is both delicious and plentiful. However, while the rooms are kept clean, they are extremely basic and feel outdated—resembling a budget hostel rather than a hotel room.

The guesthouse is in a fantastic location, very close to St. Stephen's Cathedral on foot. All the monuments are within walking distance. Fantastic! Additionally, it is clean and quiet. The only observation is the continuity between the reception, breakfast room, and luggage storage, all in a not very large space, where one also passes to go to some rooms. I would suggest, as an architect, to sacrifice one room and give a larger space to the breakfast room, which could, if possible, overlook the beautiful Neier Market square, on whose facade the name of the guesthouse already stands out. I will definitely return.

While the location is great there are many other hotels in the area to choose from. This hotel needed serious upgrades. The furniture was crusty, the WiFi was awful, the walls were way too thin, and, the bathroom was disgusting. Genuinely, my bathroom had water damage, the shower was difficult to use, and I noticed it was not being properly cleaned. In fact, nothing was properly cleaned which is confusing given that the staff was so eager to bust into your room at 8 am while you were still sleeping. The towels were not changed regularly and it seems the only thing they did was take out the trash and fold the comforter. Also the breakfast was awful and needed updating (bread, cold cuts, canned fruit, and hard boiled eggs). Overall if you’re staying for a day and don’t really care about anything it’s fine. If you’re staying longer, and value cleanliness, WiFi, and top notch service go elsewhere. It also smelled bad.
