A great value and safe hotel in the historic inner city It’s not so comfortable and luxurious, but it’s close to attractions in the clean and central area

At first glance of the hotel it seemed reasonable, checked in okay, even got the bags taken upstairs by one of the workers. When we got to the room everything seemed normal, until we started looking in detail, things were missed not working or damaged. The curtains didn’t cover the entire room, the toilet was leaking (from the bottom (we had to put towels around the basin to stop the bathroom floor from being soaked and had to chance theses daily). A lot of the electrics didn’t work, a lot of switches didn’t work, ,the air-con seemed to have a mind of its own first it was blowing out hot air the other minuet it was freezing. The carpet was dirty with stains on it. The second day I woke up and was looking forward to breakfast, was excited to see what they had to offer, to my surprise I got downstairs for it to be a sort of ghost town with 2 containers which had a cold oily omelette and the other just hard boiled eggs that was all that was there, no knives and forks on the table or anything, nothing was set up. Fair to say I didn’t get up early for the rest of the trip to have breakfast. When we were getting back to the hotel at about midnight we couldn’t sleep as there was banging music till about 2 in the morning. It seems to be a nice hotel with a lot of potential however at this current moment in time it needs an awful lot of work which I don’t think it will get any time soon. We also noticed that something suspicious was going on as females were entering and exciting the hotel quite frequently with money and going in taxis, our theory got summed up when we bumped into the maid at 2 in the morning going up to the fifth floor when a group of women were leaving.

To sum it up it is basically a brothel, the maid was working at 2am, girls were leaving getting into cars and counting a lot of cash, men were all gathered in groups in the restaurant with one going up to the fifth floor at a time. The hotel often rented out the restaurant for parties and also decided to blast their own music so there was never much quiet. The decor at a glance isn’t bad but there are so many simple things they could do to improve them. The toilet leaked, they had masking tape holding skirting boards in place to name a few. Lots of the sights in baku are near the old town, which is about an hour of a walk away, so it doesn’t even have a central location. Also the breakfast is practically non existent. How this hotel is rated a 5 star I don’t know as it couldn’t be anything further.
