Sun Rise Hotel

Sunrise Hotel Baku was a total disappointment. The service was painfully slow, the staff seemed disinterested, and hospitality was non-existent. The price we paid felt like a scam for the dismal experience. Definitely not worth the money – steer clear if you value your comfort and sanity. The quality of the amenities (which look around 500 years old!!) were just worse than terrible. The staff just did not care for any of the necessities which we required. NEVER EVER STEP FOOT INTO THIS HOTEL!!

We arrived in Baku to find the hotel we had booked had cancelled our booking to resell our rooms at an inflated price. We booked another hotel that the taxi driver still hadn’t found after 2 hours so we decided to stop off for a beer and a chill out. We asked at the Sunrise if we could stop for a drink and recharge our phones and use their WiFi. The lovely lady was only too pleased to help. After several hours... and several beers she had contacted the manager who said that if we couldn’t find our hotel he could offer us rooms at a more than fair price. To cut a long story short... we ended up returning to Sunrise Hotel to be welcomed back with open arms. We had lovely spacious clean rooms and were shown such kindness. We enjoyed much needed sleep after one day of flights and one day of taxis and the manager is going to try and accommodate us for a further 2 nights 🤞 Even if this proves impossible we are forever in his debt for his kindness.

We were happy that the hotel was clean and all the staff friendly and helpful but our stay here was spoiled by the manager. We booked and paid for the hotel through eDreams and has their confirmation but we had to have a confirmation from the hotel in order to get a Visa to visit the country. The manager decided that this was an opportunity to put his price up and he typed into the Visa confirmation that he wanted $80 per night per person or £778.00 where we had already paid £193.00. We were hassled all week and even threatened with eviction if we didn't pay in cash. We left a night early even though we'd paid for 7 nights, and we spent our final night in the airport. On checking out early we told them we didn't have that sort of cash and they agreed to us signing a note so that they could claim from eDreams. The manager would not accept that we'd paid even when we showed him the receipt and he said we should pay him and claim the money we'd paid, back from eDreams. None of this was necessary. We'd booked and paid and should have just had a good holiday but we simply got hassle and worry from the second day on, we lost a night we'd paid for and finished up very tired and hacked off. My advice, Don't bother staying here they are not good at keeping there word and even if you've paid you may be hassled by the manager to pay much more in cash. Its a shame really because all of the other staff were a credit to the hotel and their country.
