We stayed in the garden room which is delightful. It is a purpose built self contained unit. It has a comfy bed, a lovely bathroom and a ‘conservatory’ (you have to see it to know what I mean). It is about a 30 minute walk to the centre of Ghent or you can take public transport. The hosts kindly showed us the public transport routes. It’s about a 15 minute walk from the main station. It is quite hard to find initially. It is right next door to the Carrefour express shop.

I would call this place a real find. We stayed here a week in order to attend a conference at the nearby ICC (International Convention Centre.) The location was perfect: a 20-minute walk from the train station (there are several bus routes that can reduce this by half or more), 7 minutes' walk to the ICC. There are two buses that stop nearby on the same street.
A small grocery store (Carrefour Express) is right next door; you can buy food including prepared sandwiches, wine, and beer. There is a larger grocery store (Proxy) further up the street with more selection and lower prices. Several restaurants on the street; I recommend the Ette-Ibibio (African), and Asian Delight, but there are many others to choose from within reasonable walking distance.
Our room was the Garden Room, which is literally a room in the garden: a self-contained unit at the back of the garden. There is a glassed-in terrace in which we could leisurely view the very private garden. The room and bathroom were very nicely appointed and comfortable. There is a kettle, microwave, and fridge, as well as basic dishes and cutlery (glass wine glasses and corkscrew, too.)
The hosts are friendly and attentive to their guests. They helped with information on local sights, directions, and anything else we needed. I'm only sorry that our schedule didn't allow us to partake of their homemade breakfast (at extra charge but I expect worth it.)
I highly recommend this place; high quality at a very reasonable price.

This is an excellent base for a stay in beautiful Gent. Hard to find as it's quite inconspicuous from the front, but when you get inside it's surprisingly spacious. we stayed in the room at the end of the garden. Very comfortable and a little magical. The host is extremely friendly and helpful. He advised us on travelling into town and on places to eat. Actually you can quite easily walk from the house, passing through a bustling student-land where there are plenty of bars and cafes. Then further on it's not far to walk to the old town which is very picturesque.
