We arrived very early on a Sunday afternoon but the staff on duty were excellent and quickly found us our room . They also suggested a few restaurants for the Sunday night meal though one was closed on Sundays! We had room 12 which was really good with magnificent view of the Castle. It was very clean and well appointed but would have loved a mini bar to store cool drinks Breakfast was functional rather than excellent. The one downside was 32euro car parking on site which was a third of the room price!

What a beautiful hotel. We stayed in room 12 which is huge and in the main hotel. The room has tall ceilings and beautifully decorated. It has a nice view of the Castle of the Counts from the windows. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean and more importantly it was very quiet too. We don’t have breakfast but we did enjoy sitting in the bar area which also was very lovely. The reception staff guy was very helpful and friendly. And he gave us good recommendations for places to eat etc. We didn’t ask his name but he was from Georgia. A very nice professional guy.

At Hotel Gravensteen, the beautiful old entrance and the beautiful chandeliers immediately caught the eye. It gives the hotel a charming and classic feel. We were kindly received by the staff, which gave a pleasant first impression. Our hotel room was fully furnished, although it was in a newer extension. As a lover of classic styles, I would have preferred a room in the old part, but the room itself was otherwise comfortable. A big plus is the location of the hotel: almost in the middle of Ghent, so you can explore everything on foot. The breakfast was excellent and complete, with lots of fresh choices and a pleasant layout, which gave a nice start to the day. Unfortunately, there were some cleaning points that left something to be desired: the bathroom seemed clean at first, but there were hairs in corners, indeterminate stains on the walls and the toilet brush could use some attention. In addition, the pumps for shower foam and hand soap were empty, which was not convenient while showering. We passed on these points at check-out and were offered an apology, including a small attention in the form of coffee. That was picked up nicely. The bed was good and the other facilities in the room were well cared for. All in all a pleasant experience, with some areas for improvement in terms of hygiene, but a prime location in the heart of Ghent and a delicious breakfast.
