Though there a limited hotel options in Mons, hotel Elliniko should not one of them. Our room was dusty, beds were uncomfortable, blankets smelled of smoke/fire and not sure what detergent they use on the sheets, but we both got very itchy. No breakfast, no wifi. Spend some €20 more per night and get yourself a decent room.

I chose the Hotel Elliniko because it was close to the Mons train station and in my budget. I had a reservation for a room with a private bath, but was told that some mixup occurred, there was a big NATO deal going on, and the only room available was on the third floor; sharing a toilet in the hall. But I was charged three Euros less. I have M.S. and travel with poles and a well-packed backpack. So up I went, from ground floor to first floor on some mighty steep stairs. And then, from first floor to second floor on another flight of stairs. Then one more stairway up to the third floor and into the most spartan of rooms. There was a sink, and a shower stall that I feared using because the guy who helped haul my backpack came back to replace the shower nozzle. Never a good sign. Toilet down the hall. I went out for supper, shunning the ground floor restaurant because it would seem to be rewarding incompetence. A Gyro joint across the street had fine urban fare for cheap. Found out that the lights had timers on them, so traversing the stairs was high adventure for me. There was at least one other guest on the third floor, but that is the only other guest I saw. Further, I took the liberty of examining the shared bathroom on the second floor and found nothing to indicate that it had been used. I saw no activity or signs of people on the first floor. My conclusion is that while there may have been some NATO meeting that night in Mons (the Ibis down the street was full because of it, according to Ibis staff)) the Hotel Elliniko wasn't giving me the whole story. I wonder whether it accepts reservations for certain requests (room with private bath - meaning toilet) with no intention of delivering a room of that type. My gut tells me that Hotel Elliniko is running a scam. That might not be truth, but I feel the need to report my experience and issue a warning. If you have mobility issues and/or lots of luggage, don't book this place. Strongly consider another place if you have concerns sharing toilets and bathrooms with everybody else on the hotel's floor. My stay at Hotel Elliniko physically exhausted me. Not what you're looking for while on vacation.
