Egmond Hotel

Some years ago, my wife and I fell in love with the Egmond. It was an amazing hotel. A lovely old building, period furniture, breakfast served at your table whilst background {well chosen} classical music drifted through the air at breakfast. Bon Appetite. Wonderfully situated for Minnewater and all the Bruges attractions for visitors. We lapped it up!! As time went on, the ownership changed as did the quality of the room, the cleanliness, the service, and the safety. Eventually, we had to walk away, saddened by the rapid decline in standards. Nothing to do with us!! Not much more to say except - we are sad. But if someone has some imagination and is looking for a possible goldmine - well ...........................................

The hotel is an oasis in a beautiful medieval city that doesn't have much greenery (but that is nevertheless beautiful). It is a handy short walk from the train station, so not too much straining with the luggage, and because it on at the limit of the park that separates the modern from the medieval, it is very peaceful and far from the touristy "madness" of the inner city. On drawback - no air-conditioning, which is fine unless there is a heatwave. Our last night was a bit uncomfortable because of that. Rooms could use some modernisation, but all services are available and breakfast is included. The hostess was charming.

We were absolutely thrilled to find this delightful small hotel with a park setting in Bruges. We had a ground floor room that opened out to the park. Everything is close by and a quick walk. So nice to be able to come back to the hotel during the day to change clothes or shoes. The staff was wonderful and gave us good suggestions on where to have dinner. We Enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone.
