Paradise on the Placencia Peninsula!
Jaguar Reef exceeded every expectation and was one of the highlights of our Belize vacation! From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed. Tariq at reception was incredibly friendly and helpful, making check-in seamless and always greeting us with a smile throughout our stay. Richard at the bar was fantastic—making delicious drinks, sharing recommendations, and adding to the fun, relaxed atmosphere that makes this resort so special.
We loved taking advantage of everything the resort has to offer. Riding the complimentary bikes into nearby restaurants was such a fun way to explore the area. The rope swing was a hit with our family, and one of our favorite ways to unwind was relaxing on the over-the-water nets while watching manatees swim by—an experience we’ll never forget!
We left with wonderful memories and can’t wait to return. Thank you to the entire team for making our stay so memorable!

My wife and I stayed at Jaguar Reef Resort from July 3–11 in a Deluxe Ocean View balcony room with a private plunge pool, and I can confidently say this was a five-star experience in every possible way. In fact, this was our third stay at a Belize Collection property. We’ve previously stayed at The Colonial and Almond Beach Resort (both part of The Belize Collection and connected to Jaguar Reef), and Jaguar Reef may very well be our favorite yet.
Before you book, it’s important to know what Jaguar Reef is - and what it isn’t.
If you’re looking for loud nightlife, DJs, clubs, or bars that stay open until the early morning hours, this probably isn’t the destination for you. Hopkins is a sleepy little coastal village in the very best sense of the word. The resort itself is peaceful and relaxing, and the bars tend to close early. Teenagers and young adults looking for nonstop action may be disappointed.
But for everyone else? This place is absolute perfection.
If you’re tired of generic, cookie-cutter Caribbean resorts that could be located anywhere in the world, Jaguar Reef offers something increasingly rare… a luxurious resort experience that is authentically Belizean.
The food is local. The people are local. The culture is local. The vibe is local. You don’t simply stay at Jaguar Reef - you experience Belize.
Our Deluxe Ocean View balcony room was spectacular. The private plunge pool quickly became one of our favorite features of the room…so much so that my wife rarely wanted to leave it! The room offered the perfect combination of luxury, privacy, and comfort. If you’re considering upgrading your room, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.
One of the things we appreciate most about Jaguar Reef is that it doesn’t insulate you from Belize. Rather, it invites you to explore it. Hopkins itself is an authentic Garifuna village filled with locally owned restaurants serving incredible coastal Belizean cuisine. We highly recommend renting a golf cart during your stay. We rented ours from Get to Know Belize (ask for Josie and tell her “Matt K”sent you!), and it gave us the freedom to explore the village, visit local restaurants, and pick up snacks, drinks, and supplies from the village markets whenever we wanted.
Without question, however, the greatest asset of Jaguar Reef is its people. We’ve traveled quite a bit, and it’s rare to find a resort where the hospitality feels this genuine. The staff doesn’t simply provide excellent service - they make meaningful connections with their guests and create the kind of experience that keeps people coming back.
We would especially like to recognize the staff members who made our stay so memorable:
● Jasmine (Front Desk Reception) – Warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived and always happy to make sure everything was just right during our stay.
● Quayli (Breakfast Server) – Started each morning with a smile and made breakfast feel like catching up with a friend.
● Captain Larry (Grounds) – To know him is to love him. His contagious energy and the flowers he picked for my wife each day perfectly embody the warmth of Belize.
● Edgar (Bartender) – Always greeted us by name and happily shared recommendations for local restaurants and experiences around Hopkins.
● Kayla – Sunshine in human form. She has a gift for making guests feel seen, welcomed, and genuinely cared for.
● Jerry (Bartender) – Remembered us from previous visits and immediately made us feel like we were returning home rather than checking into a resort.
● Ivanya (Restaurant & Bar Manager) – Exceptionally attentive and thoughtful. She even remembered my favorite rum and mentioned she’d try to have it in stock for our next visit. It’s those small touches that elevate a stay from great to unforgettable.
● Brandon (Bartender) – One of the first smiling faces we met upon arrival. Whether at the lobby bar or the pool bar, he never forgot our names and always made us feel welcome. By the time we left, my wife felt comfortable enough to give him a hug goodbye, which probably tells you everything you need to know about Brandon.
● Joseph – We arrived during a torrential downpour, and Joseph immediately jumped in to help protect our luggage and even brought us towels after we were completely drenched. His kindness set the tone for the entire week.
A special shoutout also goes to the ownership and management team. Creating this level of hospitality doesn’t happen by accident. It is evident that Jaguar Reef has built a culture of service and authenticity that permeates every aspect of the guest experience. In a world where genuine customer service often feels like a lost art, Jaguar Reef has mastered it.
We’ve visited Belize during both the busy season and the slower season, and regardless of when we’ve traveled, we’ve always been made to feel welcomed and appreciated.
If someone told me they had $5,000-ish to spend on a Caribbean vacation and asked where they should go, I would enthusiastically tell them to skip the generic resort destinations and book Jaguar Reef in Hopkins, Belize. You’ll trade crowded nightlife and manufactured experiences for authentic culture, incredible people, breathtaking beauty, and genuine relaxation.
Jaguar Reef isn’t trying to be Cancun or a massive all-inclusive resort…and that’s exactly why we love it!
Five stars simply aren’t enough.

Steps from beach, bars, resturants. Nice to have a car or golf cart but not necessary. Lots of tours from the hotel. We did the island hopping tour and had a fun and safe snorkling with Chris and crew.
The staff was very welcoming and were great people. Tariq, the bartender and many other's we interacted with left an impression.
