Oceanico Ondina

I had to pick at last minute a hotel in Salvador to watch one of the best games of the World Cup (I won the tickets) and the city was full of tourists and soccer lovers, so there were not many options available. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone. The location is fine, in front of the beach, in Ondina, and close to Rio Vermelho, but the property itself is awful. It was full the 2 nights I stayed there, but probably because of other soccer fans who also didn’t have a better place to stay. The staff was ok, trying to be as nice as possible with so many people that didn’t speak Portuguese – I helped with translation a couple times. The room was definitely disappointing: veeery small, in need of remodeling and only with the basics of the basics. The tv was working but the remote control was not. So one of the staff guys put on the channel I wanted and so it remained for the next 3 days. Bathroom was ok, the water was not as hot as I expected and there were absolutely no amenities. The hotel facilities seemed to be all old and not working well, such as the elevators. The pool on the rooftop was not attractive for a swim (seemed dirty). The breakfast was also ok but definitely didn’t look yummy. It gave me the impression that the hotel had never got that crowded and staff couldn’t just keep up with the service and replenishment. Anyway, it was fine to stay 2 nights given that I only returned to the hotel to sleep, but it wasn’t the best experience.

It was convenient for 1 nigth stay before our flight. Lobby and pool area are nice. Elevator and other comom areas such as corridors need to be painted, restored. Room need a new bed, new mattress, good linen. Shower was nice although bathroom was not cozy. Location was good. But, if not restored and updated I would not stay again.

Very basic, needs renovation. Poor quality bed. Some of linen and towels were stained. We had to ask for towels and toilet paper. Unattractive over-lit room. Noisy air conditioner in corridor. Below average breakfast. Good views from rooftop terrace. Unfriendly receptionist when we checked in, she appeared bored. Quite a good location on the 'orla' if you have a car (no bar or restaurant close by). Adequate for a short stay if you can't find anywhere else.
