Pousada Villa Carmo

The reception staff serves well, good breakfast, only the bathroom I found a little tight.

Well, languages spoken are Portuguese and English, that's all. The photos are misleading, we slept in room one, it's a scandal compared to the other rooms. An indoor air conditioning unit, and a rusty fridge that makes a hell of a fuss! Beds with a mattress of 8cm placed on slats in the length (!) No arrangement for asking business. Attic: bathroom and toilet "private" and tiny on the landing 8m from the bedroom... No curtains in the windows, go hop alarm clock at 6am! Frankly the photos of the well decorated rooms are far from it. I'm not saying anything about the other rooms, but run away from 01.

This lovely, quirky, family run pousada is unique. It needs updating, but I’d rather have individuality than a sparse hotel room. If I had got much fatter since I’ve been in Brazil, I wouldn’t be able to get into my tiny private bathroom. I’m a British size 20 - if you are bigger than that, you might to request that you don’t get put in room 6! I always travel with earplugs and I needed them to sleep here, due to the buzz of the air conditioning. However, I wake up early so the sound of breakfast being put out had me out of bed straight away. The lovely, friendly staff and the way they treat their guests is everything. They made me feel so welcome. Breakfast consists of local fruits, cakes and pastries, which guests help themselves to. I’ve tried everything they put out, sitting in the open air dining room overlooking the sea. Lizards run around on the floor, I nearly passed out when one ran over my foot! I was shocked when one ran up the wall in my room! However, to me that adds to the charm of place. I’d stay here again and would send my friends here.
