Pousada do Limoeiro

Excellent location: a block from the beach, a block from the bridge to the historic center, two blocks downhill from the fort. Room was tiny and basic and could use a paint job, but it was clean, bed okay and good bathroom. Breakfast was okay--enough to get you through the morning. Two of the three staff we encountered spoke excellent English. Was able to communicate with third person when I used Google Translate and he was very accommodating. Bring your own soap or buy essentials at the tiny grocery next door.

Although the staff spoke excellent English it was as if they didn't really want us there. The "shared area" was for restaurant customers only and we were told not to hang our washing out where others could see. Breakfast was nice, the standard fruit, bread and cheese. We had the 4 bed dorm which had no windows and no character. The beds were fine and the shared bathroom served a purpose. Stay here for the location only.

I didn't stay at this hotel and only ate at their outdoor restaurant. You enter the hotel and walk straight to the backyard and it opens up to a cozy Brazilian restaurant. They have a small garden where they grow some of their vegetables. The food is decent and not touristy. It has a hipster vibe, with paintings on the walls, lights hanging from the ceiling and mismatched chairs. The waitresses were very nice, they did all the restaurant duties, from hostess to cook. Very cute place I would eat at again.
