Hotel Suarez Sao Leopoldo

On 02/13/24, 00:40am, we checked in to this hotel in our city. After a storm, we had no electricity at home and needed a place to spend the night. We chose this hotel because of its proximity. The air conditioning in room 509 did not cool at all. I immediately contacted reception. It was communicated that there was not much that could be done. I asked if it was possible to change rooms where the air was working and it was offered. We went to 409 to test the air and guess what? Same situation! So we chose to stay in the first room in the hope of freezing. ANYTHING!!! Me, wife and son were hot all morning! Frustrating!!!

The location of the hotel is just perfect - 8-10 mins drive to Unisinos and 3 mins walk to the shopping mall. It is also surrounded by the nightlife as well as many cafes/restaurants. It might get a little too noisy for the light sleepers but I enjoyed it and I am happy that my room window is facing Manhattan Bar & Billiards which created a very localised amostphere. The only complain I have is the wifi connection that is really bad. I can only access the internet when I am near the door. The room is quite old but clean enough for my 2 weeks stay. Everyone is so friendly and although we have some language barrier, we rely on Google translate to communicate. I was requesting for a cable to charge my phone and the receptionists were very kind to find within their personal belongings to loan to me - way beyond their scope. The breakfast spread is similar daily and the food is simple and good enough for a small eater like myself. I will definitely stay in this hotel again on my next visit but hopefully better wifi this time.

It has been 20 years since my first stay in the Suarez Sao Leopoldo Hotel. I am surprised how well this property aged over years. It is quite simple, no luxury at all, but meets the needs of the non-demanding patron. Check-in and check-out are fast, there is free parking inside, breakfast is as expected for this type of hotel, and rooms are quiet and clean. Since you are at the heart of downtown, all places to eat, mall, stores, banks, and pubs surrounds this hotel in a walking distance. Fare is good (around USD70/night). The only minus is the lack of good internet access in the rooms.
