We stayed at the Smartline Meridian Hotel for a week at the end of June. After reading reviews we did try our best to go in to this stay as open minded as possible. Well, more fool us. Other then the view from our balcony and having a spacious room, I genuinely can't find many positives. In our bathroom the shower was filthy and the tray was cracked, the toilet was leaking and the tap for rhe sink was leaking. If you want a warm meal, you best head to the salad bar as its warm. Cooked food is luke warm at best, the selection is woeful, the breakfast is exactly the same everyday. This hotel also lacks professionalism, especially if you would like a drink at the pool bar and the barstaff is to busy chatting up other guests. Breakfast and evening meals are on the roof, the snack bar is on the ground floor which is open for 4 hours, that's if they want to keep it open for 4 hours or start taking the lack of choice away while you are trying to put some form of meal together. Breakfast begins at 8am where you will be greeted with rap or dance music, and dinner begins at 6pm. I would recommend calling the lift atleast ten minutes before you need it because you will be waiting. The housekeeping is by far the worst standard I have seen. They did not change our bed sheets, and by the looks of it they sweep any dirt or debris onto the balcony and leave it there. When we checked in there were dirty nappies in our bathroom bin. On our second to last day we had left the bed unmade hoping we may get some fresh sheets for our last night, instead they simply lifted the duvet back over the bed and put the bed throw on top of my wife's clothes in her suitcase. It saddens me to have to be so critical and come across as a bad sport, but I honestly can not lie and say it is better then what it is. There are nice bars near by, also if you do visit the area I recommend visiting Nessebar old town, it was the highlight of our visit and well worth a trip. I would like to come back to Sunny Beach again in the future, but I absolutely would not stay at the Meridian again. Me and my wife are well travelled and we have never been on an All inclusive holiday and had to spend so much money on food and drinks. (Within the hotel included). Finally if you are a family or have children and rely on entertainment, its virtually non existent, the evening entertainment is Karoke a couple of times a week and an Elvis tribute act once a week.

Would not recommend this hotel to anyone, not a four ⭐ but a two star. Location was good, plenty of bars and restaurants around area The Harp & Morriss bar were excellent for meals with great hospitality. We were on 1st floor that overlooked the pool area. Bedrooms, large old furniture, two single beds pushed together. Only changed bed linen & made bed once in seven days. Beds very low, dried blood on base of bed and mattress cover. Floors in bathroom and room exceptionally slippy when wet. Maids constantly knocked us up at 9am every morning to clean room, fresh towels & give toilet rolls .They emptied bins and mopped floors, leaving patio doors open,we were on 1st floor, no beds made. Safes were downstairs at side of reception desk, two keys to unlock safes,24 euros for one safe for one week, you were given one key to your safe other one was at reception, both keys needed to open safe. Lifts to restaurant there were three, only took 3 people yet stated took six at one time.Restaurant on top floor. Food was undercooked, not cooked in some cases raw, and warm, told by manager that could warm food up in microwave. Could only have water with meal or had to purchase drinks at the bar. A can of coke was 2 euros beer was 3 euros. Maid constantly cleaning around restaurant while eating meals, staff trying to take plates away whilst still eating a meal . We ate out most of the time as half board as meals were awful or not cooked. Asked about Gluten free food in restaurant, told don't do speciality dietary needs, yet the 14 allergens were highlighted outside of restaurant on a large board stating speak to chef if need help with dishes. Could not eat around pool with own food and drink on a dinner time as half board had to go and sit around our balcony. No entertainment on a night but advertised in lift that there was, asked at reception told only starts mid July when hotel is busy. Reception, most staff could not speak English referred you to notices if asked a question. All seating in hotel was very low. Half board bar, prices a lot different to restaurant - coke 3.50 euros, iced coffee 5 euros, beer shandy 4.50 euros, bar staff (women) constantly on your back to purchase drinks from the paying Bar. I've had many fantastic holidays in Bulgaria but this one was by far the worst hotel I've stayed at. Avoid this hotel at all cost.
