The Local Riverside

The hotel I booked was not open and I booked the app quickly, but I was able to check in in in 10 minutes. The manager, a man, is fluent in English and very friendly. They immediately let me into their room and followed up my stay. Being on standby to welcome guests at any time is an important factor in trusting this hotel. I used a room with a balcony. The bathtub did not hold any hot water, but due to its distance from the toilet, it was not flooded and there was no inconvenience. It is located in Zhuhua Street near the night market, but the front door is locked during the late night hours, so the security is solid. I would recommend this hotel.

A great place to stay,especially for independent solo travelers. A few seconds walk from the bustling Riverside area,right in the city center. The dorm bunks are comfortable and great value price. Yat,the owner is a really nice chilled out guy,always willing to help,and the rest of the staff,mainly female are super friendly too,more like old friends than staff,and genuine people. The food is delicious and well presented and only $1 for draught beer! A great place if you want to make some genuine Khmer friends.

My best friend and I were backpacking through Cambodia. It started at The Local Guesthouse, where we stayed for two nights for $38. First of all: The location is great! Located at the start of a Riverside side street, a two-minute walk from Sisowath Riverside Park, The Local Guesthouse is the ideal base for walking to some of Phnom Penh's attractions, including the Royal Palace ($10, worth it!), the Silver Pagoda, the Central Market (Art Deco hall!) or the Wat Phnom temple (It's a must! Worth it! Costs a dollar for tourists, but it's well invested! A beautiful place and green oasis in the capital to escape the hustle and bustle. ) The Local Guesthouse itself is simple, clean and functional - as expected. The street, like the whole area, is very lively, but our room was "at the back" and therefore absolutely quiet! We slept very well (thanks to the very good air conditioning). The staff is very friendly and accommodating - an extra compliment for that! We also didn't notice any loud hustle and bustle in the restaurant below. The environment of the Local Guesthouse is lively. Market stalls, pubs, bars and one or two streets further on, after dark, an incredible number of "curb swallows" that call out to you as a tourist by the dozen. If you want something to eat or drink in the evening after the tour, you should simply walk two hundred meters further away from the Riverside - your wallet will be happy. At the front of the Riverside everything costs three times as much. And that includes the restaurant at the Local Guesthouse, where you pay six or seven dollars for a meal. Way too expensive! Two streets away you can eat for two dollars at one of the thousands of food stalls. And it's great! Conclusion: Great as a starting point to easily explore the riverside and the center of Phnom Phen. Thumbs up!
