Stayed here as part of Gold Leaf service on the Rocky Mountaineer. Wondered whether to rate 1 or 2 but went with 2 based on friendly and helpful staff & comfortable-enough bed. The rest was a 1. Our room on floor 1 toward the back of the property was very dark - had to get ready in the bathroom (which was small but clean & modern), couple of wall sconces and reading lights only in the room, and adjoined a parking lot on the same level so couldn't leave blinds up to get more light. Facade of the hotel looks lovely - rest... not so much. Restaurant was not open when we arrived, lobby very un-welcoming, etc, etc. Bypass it if you have the option !

This hotel has two types of rooms and one type is gloomy and enclosed, and the other is stunning and well worth the upgrade money. The standard rooms overlook a central courtyard which is dated and gave me a feeling of claustrophobia. The Mountain View rooms are charming and huge. Overall this hotel is trading on its former glories and needs a complete overhaul, but its location is unbeatable in downtown Banff. Plan on eating elsewhere.

Value for money stay with family. Spacious room with a king and a quuen bed, separated from King bed zone. Heated underground carpark and can use guest laundry of next hotel. Staff are nice. Very clean and tidy room. Highly recommend for family.
