Econo Lodge Inn & Suites University

We spent 3 nughts here in June. This hotel was very cheap and not in a good value way. The tv's didn't even have a guide listing channel, you had to go from channel to channel to see what was on. The bathrooms only provided soap and shampoo. The kitchenette was missing basics such as dish towels and oven mitts. The only ice machine for the property was in the main building on the 3rd floor, which was not convenient if you were staying in an outer building. When I was asked by email to review my stay and I mentioned various things, the GM simply replied that he hoped I would stay there again. I really don't know why I would, nor would I recommend this property to others.

Pros: Great central location. Close to university of Calgary, McMahon Stadium, highways and transit. Newly renovated rooms (bedroom parts only). Cons: Noisy: Between train passing all night, noisy heater, traffic passing on highway on other side of building. Newer cheap mattresses that could feel springs through. Staff checked us in uneventfully but didn't tell us much beyond breakfast between 7-10 AM. There's an ice bucket in the bathroom and no idea where to find ice. Coffeemaker is broken. TV kept flickering. Hot water in shower must be cranked almost fully to get hot water. Sign in parking lot says remove valuables due to high break-in rates; doesn't make one feel safe either. Potential is there for something good. 100% needs soundproofing. Room features a kitchenette w stove, microwave and bar fridge. Not even okay for one night however between uncomfortable beds and noise. If it wasn't dead of night and traveling with my child, I'd move to another hotel. It's 1:30 AM and no sleep happening here unfortunately.

This hotel refused to acknowledge my claustrophobia by placing me in a tower instead of an outdoor room. After trying to pay extra to make a change they refused to do anything and in the end kept all of my $3,400 deposit without one night spent in their zero customer service hole of a hotel.
