Royal Hotel

My husband and I had a 1 night stay at the Royal Hotel. We were greeted by Breeze, the General Manager, She was so friendly and kind. We were travelling with our kayak and were concerned about leaving it on our truck. Breeze solved our concern immediately and told us to bring our kayak in for safekeeping in the hotel's banquet room which was undergoing a renovation. We were so relieved and grateful to Breeze for going above and beyond to make sure we had no worries during out stay. Our room was small but clean and the bed was very comfortable. Breeze asked us to call herwhen we were leaving and wanted toget our kayak out of the banquest room. We were leaving very early that morning but as soon as we contacted Breeze she joined us in the lobby within just a few minutes. I have to say that it was Breeze who really made a wonderful impression us us. I think she is the heart of the Royal Hotel in Chilliwack. We would return again but we would first ask if Breeze is still here.

Apparently you can have a modern hotel or a more vintage experience in this hotel. We opted for a more historical room. The hotel is over 100 years old. I believe it was built in 1908? It has a lot of character and is in a great location near many restaurants and other points of interest. I was really happy with my stay here.

If you like character and history this is the place for you. However, if you like shiny new things that gleam and sparkle with stainless steel and glass this is not for you. My wife and I stayed one night on our way from Kamloops to Vancouver airport. We had driven past Chilliwack a number of times and finally decided to check out its historical downtown. The Royal Hotel is much more interesting than the generic accommodations you get near the airport. It is a step back into the past, with a lobby that is almost unchanged from its 1908 beginnings. There are lots of fascinating period furnishings, and one imagines all the feet that have trodden the original floors. This would not be the place for the Holiday Inn ("no surprises") kind of guest as there is a feeling of being lived in but that was part of the hotel's charm for us. We arrived quite late, and rang the bell to be admitted by a very friendly concierge we could call on at any time. Linens, towels and the room were clean. The floor was creaky, the bath was actually in the bedroom and you could almost hear the ghosts in the attic. We loved all that character. It's situated slap in the middle of the downtown which is charming with great care taken in restoring the old buildings. When we were there (June 2024) the restaurant was closed awaiting a new tenant so we enjoyed our breakfast at the Uptown Grill in the restored downtown instead.
