Fort Nelson Hotel

I suppose it requires a special level of patience to explain basic hospitality to the staff at the Fort Hotel, but let us try to break this down simply for them. I made a verified reservation through Booking.com, which clearly explicitly instructed me to check in at the front desk. Upon arrival, the front desk employee confidently asserted that the hotel does not accept Booking.com reservations at all. When I politely but firmly challenged this obvious falsehood, she instantly pivoted to a completely different excuse, claiming that a sudden plumbing issue prevented anyone from staying. It must be exhausting to juggle so many conflicting fabrications in a single conversation. When I asked her to perform the monumental task of typing my name into her computer to verify the booking, she refused entirely and called her manager, who managed to be equally difficult and utterly useless over the phone. This pathetic display explains exactly why this establishment is drowning in the lowest ratings across every single review platform. I was left stranded with a room I already paid for, forced to spend double the price elsewhere just to find an establishment run by competent adults. Avoid this place unless you enjoy paying to be lied to by people who do not belong in the service industry.

My husband and I have been driving the Alaska Highway to the Yukon every Aug for about 20 years and have stayed here about 5 times. The staff is friendly and accommodating as in letting us in to check in after midnight. We've always gotten a ground floor room that opens to the Tiki Room and pool. I especially like this since in my youth I was a Hawaiian dancer in nightclubs in the Pocono Mts and along the Jersey shore. Breakfast (bacon and eggs, toast, and a beverage) is included in the price. It has recently been sold and is being remodeled. We'll check it out again this summer.

Their information says recently renovated and I’m not sure when that was written as it appears like it’s been YEARS. old run down property, in poor condition. No exterior windows, dark, shabby dirty looking indoor pool, sauna not in operation, old school room locks, strange odors, noises and less than clean appearing. Wonderful staff and restaurant good but unless you are strictly shopping price I’d look at another property as there are better looking alternatives.
