Sandman Signature Hotel & Resort Vancouver Airport

We stayed at this hotel for one night after flying in to Vancouver for a cruise. Convenient for the airport and a shuttle bus included in to the cost of the stay made getting there easy. We used Uber for the hotel to Canada Place for the cruise. The room was adequate and the bed comfortable. Noticeable traffic noise from the busy road. No walk-in shower available for those with mobility issues, so you have to step over the side of a bath tub. The room was equipped with a wall mounted TV, refrigerator and microwave - we didn't use these on a single overnight stay. Single serve tea and coffee making was also available, but again, we didn't use this. There is a small outside pool located in a courtyard but as we were travelling, we didn't use this. Overall hotel cleanliness was okay but decor could do with improvement. Our booking was made several months ago and between then and our actual stay, the price had increased by about $100. Very overpriced for what you get but when there is a supply/demand issue the price can be ramped up significantly. For one night at the beginning of September we paid $356 but I now see the price is now half of that, presumably because the cruise season has all but finished. My main concern - which I admit I did not bring to the attention of management - was the lack of adherence to fire code. I noticed that many of the fire rated doors, designed to reduce the spread of fire and smoke, were propped open with the assistance of a wedge. This wasn't to facilitate the movement of house keeping or hotel staff working in the immediate area, as these doors remained propped for the duration of our time there. Magnetic 'hold-open' devices that allow the door to close when the fire alarm is activated are available and should be the standard, unless doors are to be kept closed.

Sadly, the name of this hotel didnt hold up! You think a "signature" class hotel is BETTER than just their regular class hotel, but NOPE! The hotel is old. It is dated. The carpet is worn and yucky! You need to walk MILES in a MAZE to even GET TO YOUR room. The elevator is constantly broken. Laying in the bed I itched ALL OVER! The bathroom sink was falling - I was just waiting for that whole thing to crush my foot while I was brushing! Also, I am not 100% confident our room was services - the bedding was pulled up, but not like MADE! Overall - would NOT stay here again - sorry
