The Grand Winnipeg Airport Hotel

Always amazed and it is my go to airport oasis.

We stayed for one free night at the Grand Winnipeg Airport Hotel, compliments of Delta airlines when our flight was cancelled at the last minute. We weren't expecting much in a hotel since our stay would be free, but we were pleasantly surprised by how nice the Grand Winnipeg is! The staff members were so friendly at both the front desk and the restaurants. We had both lunch and dinner vouchers from the airport, so we tried the neighboring hotel's restaurant called The Gateway (connected through a long hallway) for lunch and The Grand's very nice restaurant, The Blue Marble, for dinner. This is the perfect option for those who have an early-morning flight who would like to be nearby the morning of, and it was perfect for us who had our flight cancelled and needed somewhere nearby to stay (it is walking distance, just step from the airport's entrance!).

We stayed here twice during our trip to Canada—once on arrival and again before our early morning flight home—and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. The biggest advantage is the location. The hotel is directly across from the Winnipeg airport terminal. One thing to know, though: despite being an airport hotel, you do have to step outside to get there. Don't let that discourage you—it's a very short walk (actually shorter than the walk to the Courtyard by Marriott). We happened to leave in the rain, but even then it only took a couple of minutes. It's simply something travelers should know in advance. The rooms were modern, quiet, and very comfortable, with plush bathrobes, comfortable beds, and excellent blackout curtains that made for a great night's sleep. The hotel itself doesn't offer breakfast, but its sister property, the Lakeview Signature Hotel, is just a short indoor walk away. We had breakfast there before our flight, and it was outstanding. My traditional breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast, and hash browns was excellent, and I have to give special mention to the hash browns—they were easily among the best I've ever had: perfectly hot, nicely seasoned, and wonderfully crispy. The night before our flight, we decided to have dinner at the on-site Blue Marble Restaurant rather than deal with finding transportation elsewhere, and we're so glad we did. It far exceeded our expectations. My husband and I both ordered the chicken souvlaki bowls, and they were incredibly fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The wine list was also much better than we expected for an airport hotel restaurant. Throughout both stays, the front desk staff were friendly, welcoming, and efficient. If you're flying into or out of Winnipeg and want a comfortable, convenient place to stay, I highly recommend this hotel.
