INN ON THE LAKE, AN ASCEND COLLECTION HOTEL

We just checked out of a pet friendly room here after staying for four nights Positives Very friendly helpful front staff, especially Jim You can park your car right at your room for the pet friendly rooms The pool was clean Negatives Restaurant closed Mondays and Tuesdays as well as the pub which was not advertised online (they do offer complimentary muffins yogurt and coffee and tea for breakfast Monday and Tuesday) Pet friendly rooms are extremely dated , we stayed in 105. Ripped carpet , moldy shower, filthy bathroom tap, whirlpool tub does not work, mattress protector is ripped Daily housekeeping only on request for stays for consecutive nights. We did not know that and did not have our room replenished after the first night we were there The grounds are nothing like the pictures, they have a few sad hanging baskets other than that every flower box and every flower bed is weedy and overgrown Many of the sitting areas on the grounds are unsafe and in disrepair Looks like this place has gone downhill and the pictures online are definitely not current. Complained to expedia and we were given a refund for one night because of the lack of amenities advertised especially the fact that the restaurant and pub were closed two of our three days there Definitely not a resort like feel , and not worth 300 per night We heard that the hotel changed ownership last year and I'm not sure if that's the reason this place has slipped significantly

I honestly do not understand how Inn on the Lake continues to market itself as a boutique destination. The lakeside setting may look beautiful in photos, but unfortunately the reality was a completely different experience. For nearly $400 for a single night, I expected a comfortable, well-maintained property with professional customer service. Instead, I found an outdated hotel that appears to be living off its location rather than the quality of its accommodations. The problems started with our room. When we encountered an issue that made the room unacceptable, there was apparently no maintenance staff available to address it. Rather than fixing the problem, we were simply moved to another room. Unfortunately, the replacement room was hardly an improvement. It was equally outdated, and to make matters worse, the paint was literally peeling off the ceiling directly above the bed. At that point we wanted to leave and book another hotel in Halifax or Dartmouth. Shockingly, we were told there was no manager or authorized person available to process a refund. The staff wanted us to check out and simply trust that someone would contact us the following day regarding reimbursement. Asking guests to leave without being able to resolve a financial issue on the spot is completely unacceptable. The lack of customer service was just as disappointing as the condition of the property. Staff seemed unable or unwilling to properly address concerns, and every problem was met with excuses instead of solutions. There appeared to be no accountability and no sense of urgency in resolving guest issues. Adding to the frustration, the restaurant was not even open every day. For a property that promotes itself as a destination hotel, this was another example of expectations not matching reality. The bed in the replacement room was, without question, the most uncomfortable hotel bed I have ever slept on. I suffer from a bad back, and sleeping on that mattress felt like lying on concrete. After a miserable night's sleep, we were awake by 6 a.m. and couldn't wait to leave. The entire property feels tired, neglected, and badly in need of renovation and investment. There is a huge gap between the image being sold online and the actual guest experience. There are many hotels in the Halifax area that offer far better accommodations, service, and value for the money. Spending nearly $400 for one night at Inn on the Lake was a complete waste of money and one of the most disappointing hotel stays I have experienced. Never again. I would not return, and I certainly would not recommend it to friends or family.

We enjoyed our meal at the Inn on the Lake. Great Fish n Chips and steaks.
