Penny's Motel

Happy little get-a-way at Penny's Motel! Excellent location for walks up the road to town centre, shops, bakery, restaurants etc. Short walk to Marina and water's edge. Penny's is a fun intimate motel with friendly staff and hospitable service. Our room was smaller than expected, but it's all you need. Sleep was comfortable and warm, the bathroom modern, clean and well stocked, the coffee in the room just perfect. Sit out front of your room in classic quintessential 'Motel' chair and view all the activities right around you - plunge pool, Sauna, firetable, ample sunbeds , games...it's cool, it's kitschy - it's simple and chill. Go and have fun.

A group of 6 of us (women) went to Penny's on a Monday night and asked to reserve a patio table in 1 hour for after we went for a walk. We were told that they couldn't reserve. We knew from a previous experience that we couldn't book way in advance). When we returned from our walk, the patio was mostly empty so we seated ourselves. After a bit a waiter came and said he had to check because they might have to save that table. Then a manager came and asked us to move to another table, explaining that a large group was in the motel and they wanted to hold the section. This was fine so we moved and we ordered our beer and 2 bottles of wine. We then sat and reviewed the menu. When the waiter came for our order he said," oh didn't they tell you that we only have pizza, popcorn and oysters".? No! So, we ordered 3 pizzas. While the table that we couldn't have sat empty for our whole visit, the 1 other group on the patio, which must have been part of the " large group" had a fuller menu. We felt like 2nd class citizens and were quite disappointed in our treatment. The pizzas were fine but we won't be spending our weekly Monday nights out driving to Thornbury for it when our area has so many good options with more selection and better prices!

We discovered this hidden gem in July 2025, loved it so much we booked again in Oct 2025, and after another great stay and experience we have booked again for Aug 2026!! As you see every time we stay here, we book again before we leave! The rooms are well appointed, very clean and the service is fantastic! The bar/restaurant may be small but lots of room outside to sit and 2 fire pits as well! And the service and food is fantastic! It’s walking distance to restaurants and craft breweries and also to the water.
