Best Western Lakeside Inn Conference Centre

We stayed here while visiting Kenora and found it to be one of the nicest hotels in the area. Our king room with a lake view was excellent—modern, spotless, tastefully decorated, and very comfortable. I especially loved the cozy armchair by the window, which was the perfect place to enjoy my morning coffee while overlooking the lake. The bathroom was somewhat small but well designed, with a nice walk-in shower. One drawback in the room was the window coverings. The draperies didn't extend all the way to the floor, so quite a bit of early morning sunlight streamed into the room. If you're hoping to sleep past sunrise—especially during the long summer days in northern Ontario—you may want to pack an eye mask. The hotel's biggest drawback is the lack of an on-site restaurant. We were told it's been "closed for renovations" for about three years, which seems hard to believe. For a hotel of this caliber, it was disappointing to have to leave the property just to find breakfast or even a cup of coffee. The revolving top floor would make an incredible restaurant with spectacular views, so hopefully it will reopen someday. Given the nightly rate, I expected a more complete hotel experience. The front desk staff were pleasant enough but not especially warm or engaging. We also received an unusual phone call one morning asking if a woman had been knocking on our door. The staff member repeatedly said "good morning" before explaining why she was calling, which left us a bit confused. Outside, the parking lot is overdue for resurfacing and is filled with potholes. We also noticed people loitering near the entrance, which wasn't the best first impression. During the night, we were disturbed by guests repeatedly going in and out of a nearby room after 11:00 p.m. On the positive side, the location is convenient, with several restaurants and coffee shops about a 10-minute walk away. Despite a few shortcomings, we enjoyed our stay. If the restaurant were reopened, the parking lot refreshed, and a few service details polished, this would easily be a five-star property.

The Clarion Lakeside Inn is located on the huge Lake of the Woods near downtown Kenora, Ontario. We had a good room on an upper floor with a lake view. There is free parking right next to the building. We had planned on having dinner in the hotel's restaurant but it was closed for remodeling.

We spent two nights in a lake side view room. The restaurant is still not available but there are options for dinning with a short drive or even a short walk. We ate at Casey’s and we had a good meal with good service (yummy Red pepper soup) and we were able to walk to Lake of the Woods Brewing Company (fantastic service and superb food!) Our view from our room made for a relaxing stay. The cleanliness of the room was refreshing (I always Lysol wipe everything upon entry but even with this I saw no signs of dirt) The room was modern and comfy. We enjoyed our time relaxing on the dock watching the sunset as well. I wouldn’t mind making this trip here again seeing as there were pretty hikes and lots to do.
