Charles Inn

The Charles is a small (12 rooms) charming and historic hotel just outside the downtown area. We had the Verandah Room, a large, comfortable room with a working fireplace and a private sitting area overlooking their gardens - perfect place for morning coffee. Although the hotel was full, it was very quiet. The Charles is a little far for walking all the way to the Festival Theater at the Shaw Festival, but it's adjacent to the golf course, close to the lake, and in a neighborhood of large, beautiful homes. If I have any complaints, it was that we had to go to the bar to get our coffee and the lighting in the room wasn't the greatest. Otherwise, this is a highly recommended spot to enjoy the beauty of Niagra-on-the-lake! And the restaurant is lovely, too!

The Charles is a charming hotel in a great location. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The rooms are so nice and cozy, and the bathroom is amazing. 😊

Went for an overnight for our anniversary. Reserved a “premium room” only to find the room we were given was tiny…no seating area inside (screened in porch was supposed to suffice- but it overlooks the parking lot). Went to see the front desk person who stated we had a premium room. They did provide 2 chocolate chip cookies at check in. The room was opposite a wing of the restaurant and backed up to the parking lot. The nearby exit door was utilized constantly and loudly by guests and staff. At one point it sounded like the people were in the room with us. The walls are thin and we heard the people above us as well as restaurant staff outside. It is a lovely building from the 1800’s but it needs updating. Our room had a damp, dank odor that smelled of wet dog. The exit door near us slammed every time anyone used it and the walkway was uneven and in the dark it was a bit dicey. At night the door to the porch had a sheer cover that allowed light from the street in all night, as well as the heating/cooling unit having a bright light that lit up the room. Disappointing experience, they did offer breakfast as compensation for our less than stellar experience but we had breakfast plans already. Would not recommend…
