Fairmont Chateau Laurier Hotel

We booked into the hotel via travel agent and requested a king room with views of the parliament. The building itself is very beautiful and centrally located. The staff are attentive and helpful. However, as soon as I entered the elevators, I was aware of a strong smell emanating from the carpets which needed to be replaced. When we entered our room under the eaves of the roof, there was effectively a peek view of parliament, if stood in the corner of the room behind the bed. It did not measure up to the photos that we had been shown of these rooms. However, the reason I’m posting this review is because I have mold/dust allergies, which were triggered within 10 minutes of being in the room. I had an asthma attack and talked to staff about changing rooms to something without the carpet. They were very accommodating and did move me to a more recently updated room with a new carpet which was not an issue. The elevators remain challenging for me throughout the stay because of the odor. I’m posting this review so if any other mold/dust sensitive traveler reads it, they can be sure to request a recently updated room

It is not a luxury hotel, at least not by French standards. We took two rooms that were not cleaned the first day despite our complaints. The second day, same thing; I had to demand that they clean the rooms for me. I should specify that I did not put the "do not disturb" sign on the door. The furniture is dilapidated and the rooms are absolutely not soundproofed. Do not waste your money unnecessarily; apart from the exterior building, the rest deserves a real renovation.

Chateau Laurier is a historic hotel in a perfect location in walking distance to many of the attractions of Ottawa as well as many restaurants. The service is excellent, the staff very helpful and friendly, the rooms very clean. The rooms are spacious but in the 6th floor the window is small and there is not much of a view. The bathroom is also on the smaller side, but it is a historic building. The Restaurants are very good and we enjoyed the terrace for lunch. We found the price in relation to what was offered. We would definitely come back, especially since you cannot beat the location.
