This property feels every bit its age. While it has been renovated several times over the decades and the guest rooms reflect one of the newer Holiday Inn Express design standards, the hotel is fundamentally an aging building that appears to be struggling with maintenance. The biggest issue was cleanliness. My first room had extensive mold throughout the shower area. Mold like that does not develop overnight. It is the result of prolonged neglect. After requesting a different room, I found the second room had the same problem. At that point, it was obvious this was not an isolated housekeeping oversight but a property-wide maintenance issue. The mold also raises troubling questions about management. Guest rooms are supposed to be inspected after they are cleaned. Either the housekeepers are ignoring the problem, the supervisors responsible for inspecting the rooms are overlooking it, or management is aware of the issue and has chosen not to properly remediate it. None of those possibilities reflects well on the hotel. Besides the mold, other areas of the room were in poor condition. Furniture was scuffed, scratched and otherwise just worn-out. There was also signs of mildew. Some fixtures were rusted. Hairs were visible on flooring. IHG elite recognition was equally disappointing. Rather than being offered the standard choice of bonus points or a welcome amenity, I was invited to spin a prize wheel. The "prize" was a choice of junk-food snacks. It felt more like a gimmick than meaningful recognition of loyal IHG members. I had also requested a room on the highest floor, a basic preference that was ignored. Instead, I was assigned a ground-floor room overlooking the interior courtyard. The staff were courteous enough, but courtesy cannot compensate for poor housekeeping, inadequate maintenance, and a lack of attention to elite guests. Until ownership makes cleanliness and maintenance a genuine priority, I would look elsewhere when staying in Sault Ste. Marie.

Everything was good with the stay of 1 night, the breakfast next morning was good, so was the room and service. The issue happened 2 days after return to home. On my Amex credit card found 2 surprise charges of aprx 7 $& 9 $ from holiday inn. No mention during our stauly or check out nor any thing purchased or ordered adtl during the stay. *** NOT GOOD FOR THE BRAND**** You lost a repeat customer for miserly pocketing 16$ that was not due to u.

We stayed here when we were dropping our daughter off at University. It met all expectations. Centrally located close to the University and lots of food options. The rooms were clean and the staff polite. A solid breakfast was available from 6:30-9:30. Parking was available and secure. Watch out for the orange chair it leans back quite a ways. There is also a mall directly across the street for shopping. Within minutes of the U.S boarder.
