Booked this hotel at last minute (literally couple of hours before arrival). Called them to ensure the booking had gone through and to advise it would be a late arrival between 10pm - 10.30pm. Was advised a key would be left at the shop as there wouldn't be anyone there to let us in. (all we had to do was call in at the shop for key). Due to traffic issues it was 10.50pm when we arrived at the property. The shop had all the shutters down, No buzzers, no one around. After 20 minutes of trying we then had to drive round to find another hotel. At no point when we called were we advised that if we were later than a certain time we wouldn't be able to gain access (clearly we can't control traffic incidents). Disappointing that they didn't even call us to let us know. But what is more disappointing is that the booking was made through Hotels.com and despite hotels.com contacting them, they have refused to give approval to Hotels.com of the problem who therefore cannot refund us.

Very disappointed to find when going into tiny local store to check in that there was nothing about our booking. Gentleman phoned someone who said they would bring a key in 5 mins. We waited outside shop as no room to wait inside. About 10 - 15 mins later a van pulled up, a man got out and said 'Are you the people who need room?' and then strode down a narrow entry to a car park and door to B&B. Inside the building he gave us a key and pointed upstairs. Once in the room things were no better - only one set of towels, one mug and one glass. The pillows were like pancakes. We went back into the shop and asked the man to arrange more pillows and a second set of towels, mug and glass. He made a phone call and then handed the phone to me. A lady said that the room was only booked for one person but as I had confirmation that it was for 2 she said she would sort it out before the evening. The en suite was a very narrow room (if a large person you would have trouble!!), the 2nd pillows were no better that the original pancakes so we didn't get much sleep especially as the bed was so soft that when my husband moved so did I and vice versa. All in all not the best B&B but it was only £70 a night!!! Oh, one more thing, it was on the flight path to Heathrow and every time a plane went over the TV went silly!!

Very disappointed-very small room, tiny bathroom, and bed barely big Enough for two with very soft mattress. No one to greet us, had to collect keys from shop at the front. Very difficult to find - had to ring to find the place and you have to drive down a very narrow alleyway to get to the parking behind the shop. Garden was a bench with parasol beside the wheelie bins. To be fair it was clean but furnishings very basic. Television didn’t work and even though we complained about this at breakfast it was no better for our second night so gave up. Breakfast was freshly cooked but you didn’t get a choice and we got given toast even though we didn’t want it - but it had been cooked! Second morning cook very busy on phone so beans and mushrooms were cold. No one to see us out so we just left keys. Location for castle very good and good food at the pub next door. It seems to be a b & b that no pride is taken in and very little money being spent to make it more comfortable. Will never return!
