I stayed for two nights in this hotel and I would have rather stayed in a hostel. Would I have known that it was so dirty, unkempt, filthy, smelly and simply gross. I have stayed in worse places but at least they were clean!!!! Hotel manager: you are running a business where people sleep, use the bathroom and eat in the kitchen therefore all of these areas should ALWAYS be clean. For whatever reason three out of 4 bathrooms were locked so we had to use the ones downstairs. The room was overly hot and there was no place to turn down the heat. Also the sheets were dirty and we found someone else's hair. The water pressure in the room was very poor. Hotel manager: it seems you have given up with this place so either fix it, clean it and maintain it OR simply sell it so that someone else can look after it.

I was there for an extended period of several months on business travel, so budget was a priority. The location in Plateau Mont Royal is excellent. However in terms of service at the hotel...not so much. Staff was at times polite and friendly, and at other times inconsiderate and neglectful of the basic needs of their guests. As a side note, I had no problems dealing directly with the Owner, but for some reason he is no longer there and cannot be reached. Common areas were cleaned and maintained. But my room was only sporadically cleaned, and then eventually, not cleaned at all. It got to the point where I had to hunt for cleaning supplies, and clean the room myself. The bedding went unchanged for weeks on end. It was as if cleaning of guest rooms during room occupancy was not any kind of a priority. It was simply ignored. On several occasions I had to REQUEST for a change of towels, which is a basic need for any hotel guest. The en suite sink in my room was a disaster. No hot water - period. The cold water was foul smelling, probably due to the old pipes (major plumbing repair required). I barely used it. The heater in my room broke down frequently, and I ended up having to use an electric space heater supplied by the hotel, since the room heater was unpredictable. There is basically no front desk service, which is a strange way to run a hotel. Staff is there for there for maybe a couple of hours a day, and then they leave and you're on your own. The telephone left there for "emergency calls" may or may not be answered. I spoke to at least 2 other guests who had problems during checking in because no one was there when they arrived, and they were basically stuck at the front door which is always locked (code entry system). Wireless internet services is spotty at best. I got better a wireless connection from the library across the street, and the cafe downstairs...while I was in my room. The rate was quite reasonable, and is probably the only reason that I put up with the poor service and sub-standard amenities. However, in terms of payments staff was usually also very slow in providing payment receipts, which I attribute to the generally very low business standards of the hotel. In fact, when I checked out of the hotel (of course, no staff was at the desk during check out), I left the room key and a written request (or "reminder") to please send me my 2 outstanding payment receipts via email. Several follow-up calls later, I have STILL NOT received my payment receipts...to date. In fact, the last time I was able to get staff on the phone to resolving this matter, he simply hung up after I identified myself. So it is now quite clear that the Manager has no intention of fulfilling his obligation to a paying customer, who is no longer at the hotel. This is an example of the really poor attitude which you can see in several other reviews. It is unacceptable. As a side note, I contacted the Office of the Quebec Tourism Minister to register a complaint about Hotel Stay Mont Royal. The person at the Ministry checked through their files, and informed me that there is no hotel listed by that name in their Registry. Very strange. Every hotel in Quebec has to be registered with the Quebec Tourism Ministry. I have stayed at several properties before for business and leisure travel. This was by far the worst experience. If you want a cheap place to stay and have no expectations about service, then give it a try, and good luck. Otherwise there are far better options available in Montreal, where providing a paying guest with proper service is actually taken seriously, and guests are not taken for granted.

Can they even be labelled as civilized citizens? People? Inconsiderate, selfish, overly money driven, thinks only with their anguish and anger and resentment. Indeed no way, should anyone should even apply here.
