Les Studios Hotel - Universite de Montreal

Although there are many negative reviews for this accommodation and I’m not saying their reviews are not truthful I was pleasantly surprised by my stay at this hotel. Expecting the worst our room was a twin- well single with pull out trundle but our room and sheets were clean. Bed was comfortable and we had a hot shower in the morning. There are a few cons - it was a little hard to find the reception for checking in as it’s on a campus university and there are so many buildings so maybe needs to be a bit more well sign posted. The room walls were bright red and mustard and when we went to check out they said that we couldn’t leave our bags there as there was no more room in the storage room so we had to cart our giant backpacks around with us for the day before leaving Montreal BUT I’ve stayed in much worse and so for cheap basis accommodation We couldn’t complain !

This is perfect for short and cheap trips to Montréal. The room is clean and the bed is really comfortable but the walls are thin, so it can be pretty noisy. The temperature in the room was also really warm. Pictures are not really accurate. I would have liked the staff to tell us where the different rooms shown on the pictures (kitchen, living room, etc.) were. They should also tell us about the breakfast option when checking in. I feel like the staff wasn't always comfortable communicating with us. However, they were really kind.

I always enjoy my budget visits at Les Studios Hotel during Jazzfest, because the place evokes happy memories of university life years ago. But I go there to sleep, not to hang out in a room appointed for luxury and long stays. Ritz Carlton, it is not. You get a basic twin or trundle bed and a desk and fridge. Bring your own little fan, because Montreal summer nights can be humid and there is little cross ventilation when the doors are closed. (Some guests have learned to chain the door but prop it open slightly, using a shoe.) The washrooms are communal, so dress accordingly. (I'm a guy, so I've seen a lot worse...) And be advised that cooking odours in the student lounges may be redolent of curry. It's not a business-travel or luxury hotel, but if you're visiting Montreal, you shouldn't be spending all your time in your bedroom, anyway. You're paying for sleep and a place to change clothes. Paid parking and gym facilities are nearby and not bad for the price. Tip: bring a bicycle, park the car. Depanneur is just across the street. Metro stations are nearby, and the night bus is very reliable. This place is better than many youth hostels. Les Studios is well worth the price.
