Ams Apartments Monjitas

The unit we stayed in (1614) was west facing and hideously hot in the afternoon and well into the night. No air con, only a fan. We could not sleep because of noise from constant very loud traffic, dogs barking, noisy neighbours. The facilities were very basic and unkempt. There was a reception of sorts! Monitoring the block and not overly friendly. Do not come here if you can't speak Spanish. Yes it was central but that is about all.

This is a very tall apartment building right in heart of downtown Santiago. For location, it cannot be beat. We were there in mid-July right on the day of the big Virgin del Carmen festival and really enjoyed the big religious dancer presentations, street procession and all-day celebrations. That made for a very interesting contrast in religious ambiance with the nearby tranquil Baha'i temple. Las Monjitas is just a few blocks from the Plaza de Armas and is surrounded by many very affordable and good restaurants (the majority of which, curiously, are Peruvian).. The apartments are small by US standards, but comfortable and clean (and, yes, you can drink the tap water). The building has two separate and large on-site laundry facilities. The front desk is staffed 24/7 with very helpful folks and there are 3-4 security doors between your apartment and the street. The difference between day and night is amazing. During the day, this complex is part of a mall that is absolutely buzzing with restaurants and activity - at night, it is a ghost town - so plan your days accordingly. This area is a bit sketchy after dark, but the path from Plaza de Armas is well lit and people really are out socializing until midnight. The metro system is excellent but starts shutting down around 11:00 PM, so always be ready with Uber. Remember, however, that this is an apartment - not a hotel. The AMS staff is very professional and will get you set up, checked in and out in a timely manner. Treat it as a home away from home and you will really enjoy your stay.

Stayed here for a couple of nights with a mate in the July of 2018. At first we struggled with no English-speaking staff available but they were very helpful and we sorted it out regardless. Had some problems with a very dodgy wall power point that started to smoke at the wall when we plugged the heater in but the lovely manager quickly moved us to another room. Would recommend for the price point, Thank you to the staff.
