Laojieyuan Jingpin Hotel - Huangshan

This hotel is also known as Laojieyuan Jingpin and is close to Old Street rather than on it. It is convenient as it is a cheap taxi fare or bus to the main bus station. However our room was tatty with wallpaper coming away from the walls and the bathroom smelled of drains. Sheets were not as clean as they could have been and bathroom could do with a good scrub. Staff in reception able to speak a little English and were able to look up bus times for us. Very poor wifi and charged for water.

Please be advised this hotel will cancel your booking after 6pm and resell your room. We had an active booking to this property and we arrived at 9pm after a very long journey. When we arrived they did not stop saying they had no rooms when I had an active booking and I asked the previous hotel to tell them about my arrival time. They finally sent us to another hotel where we spent more money for lower standards. At the top of this they were quite rude and they did not apologize even once.

The hotel rooms are rather nicely furnished. You can tell from the interior design and artwork along the corridor that the original owner/designer put in loving thoughts into the hotel's furnishings and colour co-ordination. Alas, very poor maintenance (or management?) turns this hotel into a shabby place. The carpet at the corridor looks old and dirty and the stains on the room's wallpaper is clearly visible. What a pity. Service standard is so-so. But just for its strategic location (5 minutes walk to Laojie, the attractive old street in Tunxi, and a few bus-stops away from the long-distance bus station) and the generally clean bathroom and bed , I'll say it's OK for a night or two (that is, if you don't mind the little unpleasant bits).
