Beijing Confucious Hotel

The worst hostel we stayed at during a 7 week trip around Asia. The whole place is poorly looked after and the room was pretty dingy and tired-looking. It wasnt very clean, especially the bathroom. There were rips in the bedsheets and the mattress was broken on one side. The room was cold , we were given a small oil heater which did the trick after being on a for a while but it meant coming back to a cold room at night as you can't leave it on during the day. There was only a tiny tank for hot water...enough for one 3 minute shower only. When we checked out at 11am we were told we would be charged to leave our bags at reception if we didn't collect them before 2pm. The location of this hostel is good but totally not worth it for how shabby it is, and not worth the price for a grim room.

I choose this hostel because of the good location. The room was fine, it was the other fellow 'local' who stayed in the 4 bed-dorm that was the problem. Lets just say the room was choked with cigarette smoke all night, and the no-smoking in room policy was not enforced. The local man, in his late 40s, brought back a girl at midnight and lets just say some dodgy things happened and so I couldn't get any sleep all night. That was my experience, don't think it could get worse than that.

Hostel did not honor my fully prepaid on-line reservation, leaving me without a place to stay on a holiday weekend in Beijing. Only Chinese spoken. I was charged 170RMB for a room with a stinking open drain, and then told no other rooms were available for the weekend. Needless to say, I was very disappointed.
