Beijing Ziyu Yuli Hotel

The hotel, located not far from the center, features a beautiful structure consisting of a central building and two side blocks. The rooms are quite spacious, the bathroom is functional, and the breakfast, in perfect Chinese style, is abundant. The prices remain average. ​The only aspect to be cautious about is the language: unfortunately, the staff does not speak English, so it is highly recommended to use a translation app.

This hotel is geared towards Chinese speaking people. Stayed four nights with a Chinese colleague on business and was very disappointed. The check in process was not smooth, no one spoke English and I was not made to feel welcome. The room was in dire need of renovation. The bath / shower tiles had two large holes in them circa 4-5cm in diameter. The bed was like sleeping on a plank of timber and the television whilst having 57 channels, all were Chinese. The one redeeming feature of this hotel is the duck restaurant attached to the hotel which had the best Peking Duck I have ever eaten. I would visit only to enjoy the duck but will ever stay here again.

Stayed in this hotel with a group of students, and we were not impressed. The hotel has 3 blocs. Some people in the group were allocated rooms in the main bloc, where the reception is. The rooms in that bloc were dirty and they smelt of mould! We asked to move rooms and we were given rooms in the bloc on the left to the hotel. The rooms in the 6th and 7th floor only, were a bit better. They still smelt of cigarettes, though. However, there is not much one can do about that, since the Chinese are allowed to smoke in the rooms, and they really do smoke a lot! The Chinese next to my room would even keep the door of their bedroom open, presumably not to suffocate with cigarette smoke! Some other people in my group were allocated the rooms in the bloc on the right of the main bloc. These rooms are truly dreadful. Very cold rooms. They even hang a duvet at the door of the rooms, but you still get a lot of draught! One of the rooms had a hole in the bathroom ceiling and they just put some tape on the hole to fix the problem! The staff at the reception did not speak any English so we had to use Google translator to commutate with them. They were not helpful at all! The rooms have leaflets promoting massage in the hotel. Do not use them! Unfortunately I went for a massage and I came out worst than before the massage. They do not know how to do massage. Breakfast was ok. More catered for the Chinese than for Western people. Overall, not a good experience and I would not recommend this hotel to anybody!
