Han's Royal Garden Boutique Hotel

If you want a 5 star hotel with mini bar, pool, room service and struggle to differentiate between being home or abroad, this hotel is not for you. This is a quiet boutique hotel snuggled in the hutongs between the Bell and Drum Towers. Excellent for subway access and wandering the streets to excellent restaurants. The Hotel is a mini Forbidden City in the old city style. Fabulous king sized bed, and spacious room. Karin and staff were kind, sincere and keen to make our stay memorable for our 20th Wedding Anniversary.

I booked this hotel for special friends and family for a memorable Beijing holiday - we decided to choose old world charm over five star modern for a change - but what I didn’t expect was badly maintained old world charm - everything looks tired and peeling and stained and frankly disappointing... not a good start to my holiday and this is the first time Tripadvisor has let me down - when was the last time trip advisor came and checked this location ?!

The hotel is located in the middle of a busy hutong - walking distance to so many sights and attractions in Beijing. There are plenty of shopping and eating opportunities close by. There is also a subway station nearby. The hotel itself is in a beautiful setting. Despite being in the middle of the Beijing hustle and bustle, there was very little noise in the hotel and the grounds and buildings were a delight to look at. However, the property is in desperate need of update and refurb. There is a strong smell of damp/mould in the public areas. The pervasive smell of cigarette smoke throughout the hotel gives the feeling of it being unclean. Furniture is dusty and fixtures and fittings in the room have seen better days. We had a double deluxe room which was spacious and comfortable but just needed a lot of tlc. Despite limited English, staff are helpful and do their best to answer any questions. As others have said - skip breakfast and eat out.
