Located in a central area that is convenient for visiting the (gigantic) city. Elegant and spacious common areas, high-standing breakfast. Clean pool and gym with every kind of equipment. Helpful and professional staff. We felt at ease.

I am long time Platinum member with Marriott. I spent months trying to find the best hotel in Chongqing to get the view of the skyline we see on TikTok and Instsgram. I originally booked 4 nights at JW but ended up staying there only 1 night, and booked the 3 other nights at Niccolo (which has perhaps the best view of the skyline of Chongqing). Height. The hotel is located in a building of approximately 60 floors. However, the hotel rooms are all located between floors 8 to 30. The floors above are offices and appartments. If you want a hotel with high floors, Westin, Raffles City and Niccolo are much better choices. Location. The hotel is located in downtown Chongqing but is about 1km away from the commercial streets. Chongqing is built on hills so 1km means a lot of tiring walk (especially in Summer). The Westin and the Four Points (which is built on top of a Gucci store) have much better location. View. Many rooms are advertised as having « River view » but half of these rooms have a (partial) view on the wrong side of the river. Rooms finishing with « 18 to 25 » are the only one with the nice river view that one expects to have in Chongqing (ie view on the side of Hongya Cave and Raffles city). Restaurants nearby. The room service is surprisingly cheap, which is good giving the lack of nearby restaurants. I would recommend booking a hotel on top or close to a reputable shopping mall which in Asia always include a lot of restaurants. Westin, Four Points, Raffles City and Niccolo all meet this criteria; the JW doesn’t. Rooms. The rooms are large and confy, with a lot of wood. It reminded me of the JW Marriott in Washington. It is not a modern hotel like the Westin and the Niccolo. Status recognition. Excellent recognition. The Club area is very good, with a nice view and excellent food and beverage. The local gift includes the possibility of getting a bottle of wine instead of the 1000 points. Pool. The pool is very large and family friendly. No view from the pool since it is located on the 7th floor. Overall value. The JW is a good hotel. Yet, I dont see any good reason to choose it when you can go to Westin or Raffles City for about the same price, or the Niccolo for a bit more money. In any of these hotels, you will get rooms at floors 50 and above with grest views abd modern amenities, something that the JW cannot deliver.
