Stayed here for five nights. Is only about 500m from Jiaochangkou metro station, but it’s all uphill via a tortuous, dangerous route, because the hotel is surrounded on all four sides by a building site, so a road and a lot of the pavements are blocked off. Noisy all day. The only word to describe the hotel is grubby. Our room didn’t smell of smoke, like most Chinese hotel rooms, but it was dirty. The fridge was unusable, it was so filthy. They charged 20RMB if we took the slippers away. Don’t expect taxis to stop on the main road, even if they’re empty. Chongqing people are very unfriendly, even to fellow Chinese. My Chinese wife asks them for directions, and most totally ignored her. Those who do respond are likely to give wrong directions. The city is not friendly to strangers at all. If you want to visit Sichuan, go to Chengdu, it’s a lot better.

The hotel was much better than expected in terms of quality and service, but the location is TOO FAR from the airport to be convenient unless you have business in that part of the city. The 45 minute taxi ride from the airport was about 60 RMB, and you MUST order a taxi the day before you want to return to the airport because there are simply no available taxis in the neighborhood. Every single one that drives by on the very busy street next to the hotel is occupied - guaranteed. It’s a 20 minute walk to the city center and on a hot and humid afternoon, it’s a depressingly long and uncomfortable trudge. The room was comfortable enough except that the bed was as hard as the floor and there were only two small pillows. The breakfast was adequate for the Chinese palate but Westerners will find it entirely lacking in what they expect for the morning meal In all, it’s an acceptable value for the price, but the location is too much of a handicap to consider a return engagement.
