Jiangnan Renjia Hotel - Xiamen

Fortunately I was traveling with a Chinese National who could communicate with the locals, otherwise I would have never found this place. Even with that assistance we had to make some phone calls to get directions. Located in the middle of local neighborhood the facility shares a building with a largely abandoned shopping mall and the entrances to the rooms look over a very large courtyard. On the plus side, there were many local shops to buy snacks and water and the nearby restaurants had decent quality food. The balcony of the room did have nice view of the city. The building next door was an elementary school which provided a charming wake up alarm in the form of a bell and chattering children. The room was large with a kitchenette at one end and a bathroom at the other end and was typical of an Asian "apartment". It would be considered a good size "studio" apartment or one room flat in Western terms. While the bedding was clean the rest of the room was a bit grungy and in poor condition and the bathroom was borderline disgusting. The shower curtain was dangling by wires and the toilet seat was not bolted to the toilet, it just was sitting on the rim. The room had two king size beds but only one was made up, the other stripped down to a less than inviting mattress. Needless to say...I wouldn't go back, even if I could find the place.
